N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

We sure are Kristen.  My son is also in Ship 11 Div 001.  It's been a rough week for all of us newbies.

My son is on ship 11 div 001. My son is 18, the youngest of three boys. This is going to be a hard journey for me so thank-you for sharing all of your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with me as we all are in this together.

Wow.  Thanks so much for the info.  From what I understand my son will be flying out to his A school.

I should add that once they receive this "held" mail, they will receive mail M-F after that, but can only mail out letters once a week...on Mondays.

Comment by diannep on September 24, 2013 at 8:52pm

scubed:  The mail is held from the SRs for about the first 2 weeks while they get the Recruit Mail Petty Officer trained for their division.  They usually receive this held mail on a Sunday and can write for the first time then.  So...letters are mailed out on Mondays from then on....you will soon learn you "expected mail" day which will be your "SR" special day each week!

lkn:  After PIR, if your sailor is one who will be flying out to A School, he/she will have Liberty with you until that evening, when you will have to return your sailor to RTC.  They cannot return to RTC with any personal items you brought for them....you will need to meet them at the airports to exchange those. They will be bussed later that night to the airports to wait for their flights, most likely.  Occasionally, they won't fly out until Sunday so we always advise people to schedule their own returns on Sunday, not Saturday, so you won't miss any time with your sailors.

If your sailor will be staying in GL for A School, then you will say goodbye to them shortly after PIR.  They will move as a group over to A School base (next door).  They will call you a few hours later to pick them up there.  Then they have Liberty until later that night....and during the daytime throughout the weekend....they have to be back on A School base each night.  They may miss some Liberty due to "watches" but will still have a good amount with you.  Once they have had Liberty, then can return to that base with their personal items that you brought from home.

You can meet your sailors at the airports when they are flying out, take ID to get an airlines gate pass, and wait with them until their plane departs.  They will be flying out through the day on Saturday, or possibly Sunday.  The goal is to get most of them out on Saturday if possible. They will have their flight info by PIR.

Right after PIR concludes, there will be a "Liberty call."  That is when all "rush" the drill hall floor to hug your sailors!  You will have about 10 minutes or so to snap pictures with them, and then they will clear the PIR Hall.  The sailors will briefly return to their ships after that (some will get their pictures and bring them to you then).  They then are "yours" until that evening!

Welcome to the newbies!  And to those who are on round 2!  :-)

I just heard from recruiter that my son's PIR is 11/15/2013!  YES!  I was just at my sailor daughter's PIR 9/13/2013 so this is round 2 for me (in the same year..lol.).

I have a question.  After graduation do we get to be with them?  How about the day after graduation?  Do we get to see them?  I guess my question is what happens after graduation?  :)
