Ok All - I need some reassurance right now...
My husband got a very quick call from our SR asking for the name of the Dr. who prescribed him ritalin when he was in 3rd grade. He had taken ADD meds off an on since then, but took himself off about 2 - 2.5 years ago. He's been so much better without them!
Is there any chance of him being discharged over this? He said it had something to do with the "Moment of Truth" ??
Talk about a mother's guilt - I put him on the meds, and now I am praying (and crying) that my decision will affect his future Navy career. His recruiter said it was no big deal, but after hearing what some recruiters will do, I am beside myself with worry!
joshuasmom: Does Southwest fly from your airport? If so, check their rates into Milwaukee and Midway. Milwaukee should be cheaper. Remember, Southwest charges no change fee (if their PIR date changes, like my son's did!)....and your first 2 bags ship for free. Milwaukee has cheaper car rental too, no trafffic, about a 45 minute drive to GL. Midway is the furthest away (about an hour in light traffic, longer if typical "Chicago" traffic), OHare is about 40 minutes away in light traffic....however, if your sailor is flying out to A School, they fly out of Midway and OHare ....in case you will be meeting your sailor there and waiting until departure time.
Check out the Navy Lodge for a good rate hotel. 1.5 miles from the base....nice units, some with kitchenettes (ask if you are interested). Also, a free pass for you to visit one of the small NEXs (Navy Exchange) to shop without your sailor having to be present with you. They do not have the PIR shuttle however, so you will need to drive to PIR. But it is close.
Other hotels that are nice, but a little more pricey, are Residence Inn Waukegan (pet friendly), Springhill Suites, and Courtyard Inn....all of these are very close to Sarge's MeetandGreet held the night before. They are about 4-5 miles from RTC. They also all have the PIR shuttle. Be sure to ask for the Navy graduation rate....many also accept AAA discounts too if you have that.
still waiting for the first letter hopefully this week i will know for sure when he graduates the wait is killing me
Good Morning Ladies
Erika, I bet that homecoming night was very special with having one child just coming in high school and one leaving.
So come clean, Craig. Tell the ladies that the last pictures are really TRUE! Yep, that is what bootcamp is like for your SRs! Nothing but luxury! :-)
Good Morning diannep and everyone :). Craig that was funny, thanks for the laugh.. Today is Sunday, kind of tough at my house without my SR. I hope he gets my mail today, that would be a treat for him. We had a busy weekend at home, my girls (freshman and senior) had their Homecoming Dance last night. I am still recovering from all the preparations, haha. I'm going to print some pictures and send them to my SR, he will be happy to see his sisters and in dresses he would have approved, haha. He was definitely a protective big brother. So my SR will have a Birthday in BC, I was trying to time when to send him cards etc. I read it takes about 10 days to recieve mail. Does that sound about right? It will be tough not having him here for his birthday.. but I hope he enjoys the cards we will send...
Good Morning everyone. Craig, as always, you crack me up. You know we love you and your humor :-) Now that pic looking over the city.... I might even consider moving to Chicago if I could live there and I hate cold weather lol.
Good Morning all!
