WELCOME to PIR 11/16/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

To the genius behind the Boot Camp Questionnaire, THANK YOU!!  My SR completed and returned it to me and said he loved it.  I guess Ninjas haven't crossed his path yet because his question to me was "what ninjas?".

Morning all.  Gabby64, I don't think my SR was being selfish when saying this but I was instructed, no bad news while in BC. I'm with Diannep, it's your call but I would honestly wait.  He has a lot going on right now and since he's almost at the finish line, you really don't want him to lose focus.

my son also told me we will get to see him the night before and he said one of his instructors told him that i never heard of that when my other son graduated we didn't get to see him the day before im confused is he mistaken

Gabby:  If at all possible, it is best to try and keep this private until after BattleStations are done, at least---and you get the I'm a Sailor call....even better if you can hold off until after PIR.  Especially if you think the news will upset him because he may lose his focus in bootcamp.  But the "call" is yours, of course, since you know him best.  I know it is hard for you not to be able to share this with him and have his support during a difficult time, but he is in the final weeks of bootcamp which are difficult and require total focus.  So, just really think about it....then do what you feel is best.

I need some advice and it doesn't have to come from the veterans on here, any advice would be appreciated. My boyfriend is scheduled to have PIR on 11/16 which is coming up in a couple of weeks (but not nearly quickly enough!!) but I received some very major medical news about a family member of mine today. My SR is very close to that person so should I tell him about it in a letter or wait until I can tell him in person? It would be terrible news to receive in a letter but I also don't want to wait 3 weeks to tell him...any thoughts?

Without this site, and these ladies, and Sarge :) ... I would be lost! Thank you!!

janarama:  For some reason, every now and then, some of the SRs are told that they will get to see their families the night before PIR.  That is not true...yes, like FTLW said, that used to be done, but it was a very long time ago.  I have been on this site since 2009 and it wasn't being done then.  But the rumor flies around...you will have to wait until PIR to see your new sailor.

Heather:  Marlinspike is a life size model ship where they practice mooring, line handling, putting out to sea, and other aspects of basic seamanship.

Kp125f I am in the same boat... Lots of gooshy stuff and lovie miss you, not that I'm complaining I am loving it, but I wanna know about the move from him, the flags and all too. His letter are usually short and sweet. He let me know he is doing great physically now. They sent him to sports medicine and they said it was scare tissue stretching really badly and causing all the pain and toughr him how to deal and stop it!! Praise God on that one!! On the 19 th he said they got to do Marlins spike the next night?? Vet mom's please explain!! ?? I know it's a big deal but no clue what it is. He also said heade maa for Chaplin duty and he is loving that!! Mentioned live fire and firefighting an chad chamber comming up... Sounds excited and pumped up right now!! :) says he is finally loving and has found his niche.... Not his exact words but the just of it... So glad he is doing well... So far out of our family I am the only one that got mail today!! (Hehe) he also said he hadn't gotten any from me this week????!!! Not happy about that as I write 1-3 letters a day and mail off!! ( we used to talk a lot every day!!) so I write like we talked... Lol! Anyway... Here's to happy letters!! Lol! Hope the rest of you get good news also!! And maybe phone calls?? One can hope!

Thank you, FTLW, for the info. I am concerned now, that I should possibly change my arrangements now while I still can, to allow for the possibility of that time. I am not sure I can afford the extra day, but of course it would be worth it if we could see her, or even get to see things on base the day before.

I'm in Div 8,I got a letter on Tuesday. It was dated the 14th so idk how the mailing is going to work since right now it seems I am a week behind in every letter.
