OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

That is wierd. Family Day stopped about two to three years ago. They used to allow the Sailors to see their Families the night before PIR.

She may mean the Meet and Greets that are FOR families...but the Sailors don't attend those. The first time that you will see your Sailor is PIR day.

Unless of course the Navy changes it back! You never know...we'll just have to wait and see. This is the first I have heard of a recruit writing about this.

Hi Navy Family, been reading along but have not joined the discussions yet. Just wanted to ask if anyone in PIR 11/16 has heard anything about a 'family day' before grad? I spoke with Sarge last night and he had not heard of this, but my girl has mentioned it twice: in a letter to me and also to my son. If that is true, I will change my flight plans to come a day early. Anyone have a clue? Is she confused? :)

I got a letter today, (the GF got 3, haha :-/ ) He basically told me about last Friday Oct 19th and that it was week 4 day 1...He said Monday was going to be a big day for the Nukes as they would find out their rate, he really wants EM, not sure why. He also said it was Lazer Gun day and he was really excited for Live Fire (on this past Tuesday) He said they (Div 002) past MarlinSpike and that it was fun. He said he has never studied so much in his life. haha his Div would be having a huge test today (Thursday) . He has been getting his paycheck stubs and he is happy with how much he is saving.. He also said he gets his ID tomorrow (Friday week 5 day 1). He also knows what A school he goes to and which one he picked but he wouldn't tell me (I'm freaked out, because I thought it was S. Carolina only :-(  ) Also he knows when his flight leaves and all the details but again he said I'll call you and tell you.. he wrote (6-2) next to that, so maybe that is when he can call again? week 6 day 2???

milligan7-I also received a letter and my SR said the same thing. He said if certain people would stop talking and pull it together they would work much better as a team.

To add on to FTLW's post about counting bootcamp/training days, when your SR gives you a week/day count, they are talking about training weeks/adys, not bootcamp weeks/days. This should be training 4 for this PIR group...some may be finishing up week 4 today and starting week 5 tomorrow.

I know it gets confusing with bootcamp weeks and training weeks, but the training weeks are the important ones...because they do BattleStations at the end of training week 6 and are then sailors!  Some divisions will then have as much as a week before PIR; other divisions may have just a couple of days.

Holidays knock them back a day too.  I only see Veterans Day for this group, but since that is during PIR week, they will all be in BattleStations by then anyway (or already have completed Battlestations).

The best way to keep up is to ask your SR on the phone when you get a call what the week/day count is.  Write it on your calendar...and remember...weekends don't count!  :-)
