Welcome Cubmom! As for flying, I am still negotiating flights. I'd like to fly into Milwaukee but the rental car places all close at 7pm. I haven't found a flight yet that arrives before 10:30pm. I'm coming from CA and there are only 3 SW flights leaving on Monday, which is the day I want to fly in. There are many selections for Friday - Sunday which get more expensive each day but not too bad. You can find a fare from $129 one way to high $200's which is less than $400 per person for me. I have to settle for that coming from where I am. I do like SW so we'll go with them. The rental car pick up is an issue now. Everything else is coming together.

Remember folks, we are organizing a T-day dinner amongst the rooms at the Navy Lodge. See the T-day dinner discussion above and RSVP if you and yours would like to pitch in. So far, it looks like we have enough peeps for 2-3 dinners - roughly $50/family to contribute (we're dividing price per family rather than per person right now - that may change....but it's all far cheaper and cozier than a restaurant).

Our deadline to RSVP will be NOVEMBER 9.

Happy Wednesday everyone! Let's hope for mail this week!

Hello ladies, I'm back.  I didn't mean to desert you all so soon, but my mother was hospitalized for the last week and I spent most of my time there with her.  She is home now, so I will be on here again full force.  I've missed you all.  To refresh your memory, I'm also a veteran mom who also helps out on here.  I'm really glad to be back.

No, probably not too early....but can you book with Southwest?  There is no change fee and first 2 bags ship free.  They fly into Milwaukee (what I recommend) and Midway-Chicago.  Milwaukee is an easier drive, 45 minute straight shot to GL.  Midway is further, lots of traffic.  You may want to try and book the return on Sat just in case your sailor gets to stay longer there.  Not sure what liberty will be over the Thanksgiving weekend....they could fly out on Friday.  But just in case, you may want to book out on Saturday so you won't miss any liberty with your sailor.  Remember, no matter what your SR tells you about when they will fly out, plans can change (Navy's choice).  So better for YOU to say goodbye to your SAILOR, than for your SAILOR, still on liberty, to have to say goodbye to YOU!

@ Diannep--is it to early to book airline tickets my son PIR is 12/2?

Comment by diannep on October 19, 2011 at 8:07am

Good Morning, all.  Have a good day!

AZK:  Hoping that all is well with your SR.  Yes, he could lose the SEAL position because of the asthma history, but hopefully not.  Hoping that they accept his "clearance" and allow him to stay.  Praying for your SR!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on October 19, 2011 at 7:13am

AZK- that is sooo funny, when my daughter was there and got her first call I asked her if she was ready for Hell week and she said "I don't think anything we do from this point on will be any more of a Hell week than the processing days were" She still refers to processing days as a living hell lol.

And hopefully they really do just need the paperwork for the test he had. I will keep my fingers crossed and I will keep you both in my prayers :-)

I changed the weather for Gurnee - as close as I could get to GL. If you put your mouse over the top bar of it (see the green verical line?) you can pick anytime you want and click and the weather will move to that time.

Click the days and it will extend out to seven.

Talking always seems to be the main culprit...there is no speaking unless spoken too and you can't talk at chow either...It must be real hard.

Even now my son is in "A" school and there ae rules about who you can and cannot speak too.

Comment by ABH Mom (Tiffani) on October 18, 2011 at 7:05pm
Thank you for sharing parts of it AZK, it is pretty funny about the talking too much
Comment by Jenn (Proud AO Mom) on October 18, 2011 at 6:59pm

Cheryl - LOL!

AZK - That letter sounds awesome. I've heard that some come where the SRs sound really down - I'm hoping for a good one.  Too funny that what they are getting in trouble for is talking!  Like 5th graders!  LOL
