I think it was the Franklin Mint or something that had coins you could order for the Navy,, there were many coins available for there rate or rank. I will get the exact link we used in our division and post it for you all!
FTLW...Did I get that right? LOl I will join that group, thanks!
I have to tell you all the PIR is the best.. my husband still talks about it to this day and seeing that BIG door open is a memory you will never ever forget! The 800 division will be one of the last ones since they line they up in numerical order.. you will sit on bleachers in front of your division. They sell hot chocolate and coffee and cute kid size Sailor hats while everyone is waiting for the PIR to begin. The DVD of the PIR is not the best so if you can video your own version of the PIR, if you cant video the DVD will cover the basics. I am so excited for you all! I could live that moment forever.
A little more info to share regarding when our Sailors take off for their A Schools. Here is another cut and paste from my question about staying and seeing my SR off... I've heard Midway has been the departure port of late. It was for my friend's daughter who just left 2 weeks ago for Pensacola. They pulled an all nighter to see her off.
Yep, on Wednesday, you will have from when Liberty is called until about 8 pm. (Your Sailor will know the time she has to be back and be sure to get her back in time to walk back to her Ship.) She will know the time she will be able to leav...e the next morning and when she must be back (probably around 7 am to 8 pm). She will also know when she will leave for the ariport and when her flight is on Friday and from which airport. They leave in the wee hours (2-3 a.m.) regardless of when their flight is, so you can meet her at the USO and give her things to take with her. Remember that the return time at the end of Liberty is when she MUST be back at her SHIP, not to the RTC. A minute late would be the same as an hour late and could cause her problems. They do get a number to call if there is a legitimate reason for being late, but allow extra time so she is not late returning to her Ship. Most of all, enjoy your time with her.
Me again. I just asked the official RTC on facebook about how much liberty we may expect from our sailors. Here is the cut and pasted response I got:
The RTC posted this: Recruits checking into A School at Great Lakes will find out their exact weekend liberty hours at that time. All other recruits will depart RTC on Friday so they will have liberty on Thanksgiving.

Great ideas Diana! I think the executive decision has been made, red it is. I need to get my ribbon ordered also. I have heard two different things regarding liberty. One is they stay until Sunday and one (probably the one that will happen) is they fly to their A school on Friday.
We are staying at the Navy Lodge and have a kitchenette. I know that Safeway and Albertsons have the big Turkey dinners. I really like that idea. Wow, I'm getting so so excited.
Thanksgiving Day dinner suggestion:
Hey girls, what about this.....I'd assume there has to be a grocery store-ish place not too far away that would prepare a whole T-day meal - turkey, tators, gravy, stuffing, rolls, veggie something or other, cranberry sauce, etc.... We could figure out how many to feed and just have Tday dinner at the Lodge (assuming they may have a common room to set up or spread out in our rooms - I have one with a kitchen). It may be cheaper and more relaxing as our 'kids' can wear comfy civi clothes and relax homestyle - you know, tv on with a game, etc.I do need to check with my daughter. She's pretty private and may just want her immediate family that day but at least planning dinner - maybe to eat 1/2pm ish could ease the stress of where to go and really make it a FAMILY style day :-)
For those who have stayed at the Navy Lodge, is this something doable? It's close to the training center. We can all chill and get to know each other. At least if the weather is poopy, we're set to stay close and can easily pick up and return our new Sailors.
Also, does anyone have a strong idea yet how many days liberty our kids get after? I'm thinking Wednesday could be the tule around town day if someone wants to see the sights. Then again T-day might be good for that as most people may not be on the road...... Just throwing out some ideas.
Being a teacher, I love the idea of students writing. My own students are dying to write my daughter as they know her well. She came in quite a bit before she left. Good to know a large envelope can be mailed. And, if she has to open it in front of her crew, no worries....that mail is for them!
LaLa..ribbon order coming soon!
Scarf color: How 'about RED ladies? Shall I just make an executive decision and go for it? Rather than trying to mess with one type of scarf to be specially made as far apart as we are, let's just find our own. I'm thinking of just either buying a red one and placing my ribbon on it or doing a felt one with my ribbon on it. Either way it's easy and inexpensive. What say peeps? We could post pics of our concoctions just before heading up to PIR so we know what we're looking for....just a thought.
