I would never take the chance of taking my sailor out of the airport for fear of not getting him back on time. I want to meet up with him there so I can hand him his cell phone. And of course say hello and goodbye one more time! I told him I would mail cell phone if I cannot get through, but he has been without it for 8 long weeks so would be a nice thing for him to get it before he boards plane.
We booked our flight home for Saturday because I had no idea how much time I would have with my sailor. So we are going to do some shopping downtown Chicago....hopefully the crowds won't be too crazy! LOL
All of you thanks so much for the support! I agree no one understands what we are feeling ......you have to go through this to really get it!
Good luck to those trying to hook up with their sailors at the airport. I've heard so many takes on that...one recruit even said they were told to discourage so many families from trying to get through due to security issues and so many travelers this weekend. I can't imagine it's ok to take your sailor away from the airport, even if they have a very long delay. Would you want to risk them missing their flight? I don't remember Sarge saying that we could take our sailors someplace else...
I just know the timing didn't work out for us to be there to say good bye. I do wish the rest of you luck. Looking forward to hearing how all that went....
Sarge said something similar, so I'll go with that and see what happens. Taking the gate pass might be a good idea! Hadn't thought of that. :)
This is what I was told on the facebook site when I asked this question site.......
" Go to the Airline ticket counter, tell them your son/daughter is deploying and you need a "non-boarding pass". There was no problem and we met him at the gate "
I am going to take my airline info and navy gate pass ticket info with me in the hopes the person at the ticket counter will let me through.
The graduation was absolutely wonderful!~ I have had a very emotional 8 weeks. :)
Life is full of growing pains ...... and some of these are love growing pains. Separation and letting go can be difficult, but knowing it is all for a higher more divine purpose helps,
Matt intends to call me and let me know where he is so that I can meet up with him. When he DOES call (which I assume will be before he goes through ticketing/security, or so I hope), I'll ask him how he wants to proceed.
I suppose you could always call Sarge, too!
I want to see my son off at the airport tomorrow also. He leaves at 2:00. I have seen a little info on how to be able to do this but really not sure? Do we go to ticket counter and ask for a non boarding pass to see our sailor off? Is it really that easy or is there anything more we need to do? My son will already be in the airport through security so he will not be with me at ticket counter.
Is anyone else planning on sitting around with their Sailor this early morning? I think Matt's flight leaves between 7:30 and 10:30 (I've heard both times mentioned, so I figure it's somewhere in there). I intend to be there as soon as I can. Poor kid is nervous as all get out again. The three RedBulls today may have something to do with that! LOL.
Still sucks majorly that we didn't get all weekend, but as a future Navy wife I'm learning to let go. He has his things to do; I can't always be there (or have him here) like I want to be. His family, on the other hand, is having a much harder go of it.
