Yea for Navy Lodge stayers! Yes, cheaper to the point of it paying for a ticket or rental car.  I'll assume that my daughter will be leaving Friday for A School as well since it's in FLA.  So....I see about flying home Friday late, too. Not sure if we'll come in Mon or Tues. I almost hate to come early/leave a day earlier and miss yet another bit of time with her......  It's like a crap shoot, huh?  :-/  Happy to hear things are settling in the planning department. It will be nice to all be close as well. We can hang on our 'down' time when our SR's aren't with us. Happy hour in my suite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's great Jenn!  Looks like there will be a few of staying at the Navy Lodge.   I fly in at 4:30 Tuesday and leave Friday evening at 7:40, so I'm hoping I can spend alot of time with my SR.  Let the countdown begin

ok ok - here's what I think I'm doing.  I'm going to book a room at the Navy Lodge and cancel my reservation at the Residence Inn and I will leave on Friday instead of Saturday.  The fairs through Southwest aren't too terrible for that timeframe (Tuesday - Friday) - roundtrip is about $340 right. The $ I saved by changing hotels and cutting back by a day almost pays for my ticket.  I'm hoping I don't let my SR down by leaving a day ealier than he may leave for A school but I know him and I don't think I will.  He'll be thrilled I'm there and understand the financial end.  Also by staying at the Navy Lodge if his dad does end up being able to attend we'll be staying at the same place which means less stress about where to spend time for my SR. I'm excited - now off to write him a letter to let him know!

Travelocity's site has new fares every Friday too.  Also, not sure if this helps but I was checking the SpringHill Suites where we're staying and they have a fridge, microwave and sink.  It's not enough to cook Thanksgiving dinner, but it helps with breakfast and lunch for those who were wondering about finding a place where they could fix meals.  I think it's $78 a night.

Just was reading some posts on facebook on the Recruit Training Command site and they said that if your recruit is at A school in Great Lakes they will know right away when they move.  If your recruit is flying away to their A school (like mine) they will fly out on Friday to their school.  I know, I know, it's the Navy and everything changes, LOL.  Just wanted to throw that one out there.

I just checked Alaska again and their prices went down today.  I'm going to go ahead and buy them.  I am leaving Friday night so that's why I'm getting them a little cheaper, if I were to leave on Saturday or Sunday it would go up
Comment by Diana(PO3/IT3) on October 13, 2011 at 10:51am

Good morning Ladies,

Thanks for all the great tips. I noticed that last night the fares were higher than a few days ago when I checked. I'm booking for 4 people so that total price is intimidating...

I'm glad I booked Navy Lodge. Feel even better after your comments LaLa. I have also heard many good things about flying into Milwaukee verses the others. Being a 'cheese head' myself (family is from ALL over WIS), I like stepping on home ground for a bit....

It's all good. We get to see our new and improved offspring!!! How exciting. It feels like she just left and now it's down to less than 6 weeks. :)))))

Have a beautiful day everyone. We are having summer like weather this week - had to break out the capris and sleeveless tops again....

And the car rental is more expensive than the hotel :-)  So still trying to figure that one out.
Comment by ABH Mom (Tiffani) on October 13, 2011 at 8:53am

I'm still checking on airfare, I have checked spirit, southwest, aa, alaska and so far southwest and alaska are the cheapest.

@Diana, that's great, I figured the Navy Lodge is pretty close to the base, no frills, but I have read the reviews and heard from people here that have stayed there and I have only read positive things.

Milwaukee is also a very easy airport to negotiate.  Very nice, much smaller, easy to get on the interstate heading south, lots of plus's to flying into General Mitchell airport.
