I have read that actually looking for flights on a Tuesday (not to FLY on Tuesday, but searching for flights on Tues) has lower fares.  Also, remember...Milwaukee is a great place to fly into for PIR.  About 45 minutes from GL, easy drive, no traffic.  Cheaper too many times.  Southwest flies there...no change fee, first 2 bags checked free.  Chicago-Midway is the airport furthest from GL.  Ohare is about 35 minutes...barring no traffic...which is hard to find!

Sorry if this is "old" info.  Not having much time lately to check all of the previous posts....

For those of you looking for flights and checking fares, I have found when looking for flights that fares change depending on the day of the week you are searching. Keep looking at those flights you have already looked at, they may go down again.  Check websites like cheapflights.com; something like that.  I'm talking about the actual day of the week that you are on the computer searching, not the day of the week you want to fly.  Also, I live in SE Wisconsin...so to address the weather issue for that week.......you just never know.  It can be nice and beautiful....50's or 60's.  It can also be cold and sometimes even snowy.  Though it isn't often snowy here until December.  Major highways are usually taken care of and shouldn't be a problem.  You will just have to check forecasts as that week approaches.  Less than 6 weeks now!!!!!!

We also stayed at Navy Lodge and it was great for us. We had our own car and wanted to drive to the base ourselves. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable and we got a room with a kitchen for the same price as a double room. Since everyone there is military is give you a warm, safe, family like feeling. And the front desk will give you a pass to use at the Nex down the street if you ask.

OMG....how are some of you finding such cheap fares???!!!??!  I can't find anything under $550/person rt whether I fly from Ontario, CA or San Diego to Milwaukee or Midway or OHare. Sheesh.......and those were the locked in/nonrefundable prices. The $138ish each way cost meant arriving at 1am. With an hour's drive after that, makes me a bit nervous should it be super snowy/icy that time of year....

And did I mention I really, really, really miss my kid?  :-(

Navy Lodge is clean and simple. No shuttle to PIR though. I drove...we had seven divisions and it was fine for me.

NL does a brown bag breakfast in their own little stenciled brown bag (I kept mine!). Bagel (lenders ind wrapped) cream cheese, chewy granola bar and a large bottle of OJ. Just grab n go...was perfect for PIR. Coffee available 24-7, vending machines, laundry, computers and printer for rent (these look exactly like the ones the recruits have at RTC that they can sometimes rent - I think it's only after BS though), modest DVD rental. Gas station right up the street and a small mini NEX (have to have ID or I think they will give you a pass). Since I have dependant ID through Hubby I just like to stay military if I can!

Good deal on the SW prices. Thanks for posting that navywife.

All going, I just booked the Navy Lodge. At $65 a night/no tax, it's a steal. You have a choice of kitchen or just micro/fridge. They have availability. It's only less than 2 miles from the training center as well. I figured I needed to cut costs someplace. We have 2 rooms. One has the full kitchen, the other just a micro and fridge. I will cancel the RI rooms now.

On to flights and a car........

Tiffani, I checked Southwest airlines and they have tickets for $138 each way.  Might want to check them out.  They won't last long.

Glad the letters are rolling in. We told you it would get better. lol

I belong to a group that writes to recruits who for whatever reason are not getting letters. While some of you are writing to your recruits ask them if know of someone. We only need a name, already have the address. This is strictly N4M's no one will know where the name came from. Completely private. Mail is extremely important to your recruits, its a little bit of home for them.

You might want to check American Airlines website directly and also travelocity. They have package deals also.  Southwest also has some webfares sometimes and they aren't on orbitz or travelocity.  We got our tickets for about $220 a person from American airlines.
