Oh just an FYI regarding the Navy Lodge, your SR only has to come in after graduation and show their ID

Also, thank you diannep, that really helps alot.  Just getting his form letter yesterday erased so many fears that I was having.

Macaroni, Cheryl (CB's mom) is in that division.  Look on page 2.  So exciting everyone is getting their letters.

Finally received the form letter today! Anyone has a SR in 12/008?

Ladies:  Here's your pep talk.

At the beginning of bootcamp, it is a "breakdown" process.  Remember, the RDCs have to work with SRs of all ages, backgrounds, life experiences, personalities, etc.  Somehow, they have to get them all on the "same page."  This is not easy...on the RDCs or on the SRs.  All that is familiar to them is stripped away...all who love them are far away...there is lots of yelling, screaming, etc...at some point, they may wonder if they can ever do anything right...frustrating...

And then...that 4th week of training (usually about 5-6 weeks into bootcamp) comes.  That seems to be the turnaround week.  They have accomplished a good deal by then and now know they can do it.  So...they see the "prize" in the distance...and the "buildup" process begins.  You will see this in their letters/calls.  There is excitement and anticipation.  I remember thinking at one point, that my SR was giving up.  In a call, my voice expressed this.  He was stunned...and said:  Mom, do you think I'm giving up?  NO WAY!  I will get this done.

And he did!  Best words he ever said to me.  So...remember....it is heartbreaking now to hear from them sometimes in the beginning...with their homesickness, discouragement, etc....but soon, it will be heartLIFTING to hear from them as they are almost sailors!  So...hang in there, ladies...it gets SO much better!

Diana:  We had a 2 bdrm and it was $139/night, I think?  Can't really remember as it was Feb 2010.  But sounds like you have a studio. I really think you will like it there. We found the location very convenient to get to restaurants, etc.  Only about 4.5 miles from RTC...took us less than 10 minutes on the shuttle.

Thank you Navywife, that helps so much, especially since we are coming from Oregon.  The saddest thing my sons letter said was it was tough because he was alone but his was pretty upbeat, which makes it easier, can't wait to get his first real letter.

Kendra, I'm thinking that you have tons of support, there are so many encouraging words here :-)  Thank you everyone for making this way easier, feel sorry for the people that don't know about N4M.

YAY Diana!  You got it.

Try not to worry, those first letters are often down, but it will get better soon and you will be able to tell a difference as each new letter arrives.

American Airlines told us that given the situation (boot camp grad dates)  they would most likely waive any reservation changes that we might need to make. We'd have to pay the airfare difference but that's it.  I also contacted the Port O' Call banquet center on base and they said they are only serving active duty members Thanksgiving dinner.  I'll keep everyone posted about places to eat Thanksgiving dinner as I get more info.

Kendra that letter broke my heart. She will be fine, they start a little slow, which gives them too much time to think. Thats usually when the first letters are written. As she gets into the busy routine it will get better.
