@navywife. Thanks on the T-day dinner places. I hope my daughter will have liberty for that! :-)  I snagged the Residence Inn quickly to at least have a good spot. I can always cancel should I find something else. I believe they shuttle to the training center? So many little details to consider in making this as smooth a venture as possible..... and I'm SO HAPPY to have this site and all the support in all of that - from the tears to the fun planning.

Hugs to my Navymom Sistas!

Yeah that's the tough part.  My sons fiance and I are the only ones flying out there so it works pretty good.  Thinking we will have to leave Friday evening though, want to adopt another sailor for the weekend :-) LOL

I have a companion pass with AK Airlines, too. But I need 3 tickets at least. They are more expensive than Southwest. So far, I figured the 3 tickets, even one being the $99/companion ticket is more expensive than 3 tickets with SW. The getting flights part is sooooooo cumbersome to me. I need a personal assistant!

Guess I need to start checking places out.  Looks like all the airlines are pretty close to the same.  I have a companion pass so that will make it a little easier on Alaskan airlines.  Southwest has good prices too (plus your bags are free)

We made reservations at the SpringHill Suites in Chicago Waukegan/Gurnee. It's newly renovated and looks very nice.  Very close to the base and they have a continental breakfast.  I have a friend with relatives up there and she said she'd get the names of some restaurants that will be serving Thanksgiving dinner.

I just made a reservation at a Residence Inn in Lake Forest/Mettawa. I hope it was the right one! They talked about being close to the Naval center. It sounded like the same one I saw on another post on N4M. Anyway, I can always cancel but I got a good suite with a separate bedroom for a bit less than $500 for the 5 nights we'll probably be there. I liked it having a kitchen so we won't have to eat out all the time.....

My son arrived on the 29th.  The mail doesn't run here today either, it actually came on Saturday and I never checked the mail so I decided to check today.  It was the only thing in the mailbox, really wish I would of checked on Saturday.  I'm also flying in the day before, but not sure about when we will be leaving since most people are saying they leave right away for A school.  Don't know how it will work for Thanksgiving Holidays though
Comment by Diana(PO3/IT3) on October 10, 2011 at 11:24pm
Did your son arrive on the 28th or 29th? I think our mail service had the day off due to Columbus Day observed. I guess that is a state by state decision? Anyway, hope tomorrow is the day. I have some preliminary tickets and hotels lined up ready for the click and get. I just can't decide how long I'll stay afterwards. That will depend on how much time my daughter has post PIR. I'm arriving the Tuesday before - will probably stay until Sunday/Monday.
Comment by ABH Mom (Tiffani) on October 10, 2011 at 11:08pm
I bet they are because they arrived just a day apart right?  Maybe she was one of the first ones for that ship and division.  Now I'm trying to figure out where I'm staying and shopping for plane tickets.  Wonder what time they will get after graduation.
