Ah, Tiffani....lucky you!! I didn't get anything at all today - not even regular mail when I checked at 4:45. :-(  Glad you got yours and it's confirmed for this date. I'm also happy to hear your son was able (and wanted to) write you a longer note on the form letter. I wonder if my daughter is in the same ship as well? She is DIV 007, I know from her extra call for info the 2nd day she was there....

Okay, so I told myself that I probably wouldn't cry at all when I received his letter, I guess I was fooling myself.  As soon as I saw the envelop I started to cry.  The first thing I saw was "I miss you guys".  His PIR is 11/23/2011, so I'm in the right group :-)  After I opened the letter it had almost a whole page of his handwriting, I was so happy, he said that the first 2 days he was up 48 hours straight and it was tough but it's alot easier now, he said it's like the Camp of Champs (wrestling camp) and a whole bunch of people yelling at you, he did say that he still has his sense of humor so it can't all be bad.  Thank you for letting me share :-)

Anyone live near Wilmington NC? We are coming there mid Nov to visit the college with our daughter and we are looking for a nice hotel with reasonable rates.
Comment by Diana(PO3/IT3) on October 10, 2011 at 6:35pm

diannep: Thanks for the hotel tips. I was leaning towards the Residence Inn from what I had researched earlier.

Still at school and am hoping, hoping, hoping that form letter is in my mailbox when I get home...........

FTLW: Thanks for continuing to post those important reminders for us.

All: I'll be playing around with this site this evening and adding some coolio gizmos and such to help us in our collective journey to PIR! Stay tuned.........

I will be posting this periodically.

Community Guidelines and OPSEC

Hello Everyone.

Safety for your SR (future Sailor) and you!

Sailors LAST names are NOT allowed anywhere on this site. If your last name is different from your sailors it is still not recommended.

FIRST names ARE allowed but I, and some of the other “veteran” moms, will most often advise you not to use them. This is a public forum and anyone can read the posts-they do not have to be a member (if the group is set to private, the public cannot read but all N4M members can-so all you have to do is join) While they use their last names in BC (in fact they don't usually, if ever, find out each other’s first names until the end of BC), the RDC's know who they are and can then, with the right amount of info, link them up to you. So, let’s say you use your last name in your N4M name, post a picture of your SR...easy to match up...and so on.

Why does that matter? Your SR's are trying to get through BC with as little undue attention as possible. "Fly under the radar", so to speak. There have been reports from moms of their recruits being matched up with them. Some are just identified…some get IT (Intensive Training), I am guessing this depends on WHAT is posted…I know of one mom who said that her son had to do 5 push-ups just for every time she posted!

The MOST important reason for being discreet is OPSEC-Operational Security. This is a way of life for us now. It will be for your Sailors career and for some of them, even more so, depending on their individual security clearance. Some moms have mentioned that even today after years they do not know EXACTLY what their sailor does.

SPECOPS...definitely need to be VERY careful.

Thank You.

Thanks, AubreysMom!  Will do!

momof5:  I would not wait on the hotel reservations.  They are easy to change or cancel, so I would go ahead and make them once you decide where you want to stay.  We stayed at Residence Inn Waukegan and it was very nice.  Studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth.  PIR shuttle,  hot buffet breakfast included, quiet area...full kitchens...pet friendly.  Springhill Suites is another good one.

When or how early do families make reservations at the hotels? Since it may be Thanksgiving weekend I want to get a "jump" on it.

Any ideas?

Hi Ladies.... sorry to hear about your lab navywife. No doubt your lab was very fortunate to have had you all as his family... On another note, lucky you for getting the letter the day after the box! That's great to hear.

Diannep - ditto on the comments on taking care of yourself. There's much on your plate - make your health and sanity a priority. That's an order! ;-)

momof5: Welcome. You can hang here as long as you like, even should you discover your PIR date is a week later. As for the form letter, my daughter shipped and arrived on the 28th of Sept. No form letter for me yet. I'm dearly hoping there will be Monday/Tuesday of this week. I've heard different time lines but it seems there is a week and a half-ish before that form letter arrives....give or take a few days.

Have a great week everyone. Let's hope we've got some letter news a'comin' these next few days....

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on October 9, 2011 at 8:25pm

Glad things are looking better Dianne, I need to come follow you around for a while and maybe I could loose some weight to :-)

navywife, you lab is beautiful, sorry to hear he has cancer. We have a lab as well and he is such a sweet dog.

Comment by diannep on October 9, 2011 at 7:50pm

so sorry to hear this, navywife....but I know you will love every moment of life he has left.

Thanks for the advice, Betsy...I'm taking my vitamins and exercising everyday!  Doing my best!  :-)
