Good morning all,
LaLa, I know the 'real' letters won't start coming for a bit yet. But what about the form letter? The one with the address, ship #, PIR date formally announced, etc? It seems like others got their's by the first week's end. Guess that is why I'm a bit anxious - especially since so much of what I sent with Aubrey, assuming it would stay, came back - like the black simple wallet and phone card. I had heard bootcamp was going to crack down and get 'stiffer' with so many people seeking the military in these trying times - trying to weed out the truly wanna-be-a-sailor from the I-need-a-job folks.
Ok, so those with SEALS/BUDS training, please find sjtina's discussion up above.
Good morning, all! Off to the hospital to see my mom. Will be back on later.
I am sorry to say it does take this long. They are not usually allowed to write the first two weeks nor do they receive mail the first two weeks. They want them to get into the routine I am sure before they start writing and most of the letters would be "I hate this, come get me letters" and some of the first letters still are like that. The biggest reason it takes so long is they don't write until they get to their "ship" and P days are over. Then they have to train someone to handle the mail because it is considered a federal job and they have to be trained. They are usually allowed to write the 2nd Sunday they are there. And this week they have holiday routine on Sunday and Monday so you may get lucky and get more than one letter. Your letters will usually arrive the same day each week depending on where you live unless there is a holiday, like this coming week. Hopefully by Thursday or Friday you all will begin receiving letters.
I have never heard of a 700 division??? Not sure you got the right information.
The drive from Milwaukee may be a few more miles but it usually takes less time to get to Great Lakes because there is less traffic than there is coming from Chicago.
Meet and greet is held the night before PIR for every PIR date at the Ramada Inn. It is free other than drinks but you can bring your own drink. It is held for all the families, not just those on N4M's. It is a family event and you can take your kids. And you do not have to be staying at the Ramada to go although if you are staying there they will give you a couple free drink vouchers.
Hi Ladies....looks like the party's started! No letter in the mail for me today. Does it take this long? It's been almost a week and a half. Got the box last Monday. I am anxious to hear from my daughter and anxious to begin sending her encouragement and love. I do know her division is 700. Maybe tomorrow.
For those of us flying up from So Cal, I'm getting some great tips on getting there. Some of us may want to consider flying from San Diego to Milwaukee - a tad longer drive (by a few miles), no toll roads, and cheaper than going into O'Hare. Might now be as crazy to fly in and out of either as it will be a holiday week.
Be thinking of a meet and greet opportunity for us while we are there as well. Do some of the local hotels, nearer the training center, host those or do we gather our own....? Lots to think about and, really, not much time to plan.
sjtina, FTLW, La La, and diannep - thanks so much for jumping in with us newbies and sharing your experiences with us :-)
