Diana-- yeah, the nights can get pretty brutal. Tonight, aside from drizzle, is actually quite pleasant. :) (I'm from SE Wisconsin, so the weather is similar.)
Have most of my stuff packed for Tuesday/Wednesday night! Staying in a hotel to help with the traffic, plus being close to my SR for pickups and dropoffs will be far easier to manage with family time and stuff.
I'm excited to see him and hear all the stories he didn't tell me about in letters! And of course, the hugs and all the fun stuff. :)
That is great to know AZK! Thanks for the inside scoop. I do have a nice peacoat that's warm enough but not too. We'll be good. It actually sounds like our temps here as well. Chilly but comfortable. Hm, maybe she meant the nights...... In any event, it's all good. Gosh - soon I'll be down to HOURS before leaving. Just being a mile-ish down the road is good enough for me....
Diana....it was that cold a few days ago, Thursday and Friday I think. Today was very mild again. Mid 50's. Maybe the attendant hadn't been outside at all today. haha I just went and looked at my thermometer; it's 50 right now at 10 pm central time. I honestly don't think you will need a parka at all. Wednesday and Thursday are supposed to be fairly pleasant around here. Just go to weather.com and put in zip code 60088 and pull up their 10 day forecast.
I just took my dog out without my coat.
Maps printed. Clothes (sort of) picked out. Laundry almost done. Flights confirmed. Rental car confirmed. Airport parking reserved. House...uh, is a minor disaster. Gotta get that squared away for my house/pet sitter.
Oh yeah, I need to order a DVD of PIR. My SR ordered a simple pic package but forewent the DVD - said it was too expensive and she wasn't interested in having it. SHE isn't interested??? Mom is. I'm ordering one tomorrow....
If anyone else needs to order a PIR DVD for our graduation, their number is: 847-578-6205.
Spoke to the Navy Lodge desk this evening to adjust our leaving date. The attendant said it's COLD right now - 30's - in the day time. Guess it's way colder in GL than Chicago proper?? In any event, I guess I'll be wearing multi-layers to stay warm. Hate to invest in parka gear when I live in southern CA! lol
silk.........safe travels! No news on our kidlets from my end. I've been watching the RTC facebook page for any glimmer of happenings....
Did today just DRAG for anybody else? It has seemed to last forever. The next couple of days should go faster, though :)
No word on today's Captain's Cup. RTC posted on their FB page that she tried calling for results but no luck. She will try again tomorrow.
Safe travels, silkoutwest.
My sailor told me that the gas chamber cleaned out his sinuses and he was glad to get all that "ick" (not exactly the word he used, unfortunately) out of his nose. His language was a little more colorful after BC and I had to remind him that mom was not a sailor and to keep that talk with his buddies. :)
Thanks on the group email tips. I've, so far, only written to one at a time....
ProudMom: Still praying and sending strong thoughts that all will fall in place as it should - and it WILL. Take care of yourself while you await the news...
In my SRs letter yesterday, she said she was the first group to go through and the fresh air was SO welcomed. She was glad to have gotten it over early instead of watching everyone else and building up all that anxiety. Whew! But talk about a team builder - pushing through something like that together and seeing everyone hurt for a bit and everyone (hopefully) came out on the other end just fine...
Day after tomorrow I fly out!!!!!!!!!!!!! omgosh omgosh omgosh....can't wait!
diannep: Got it! I had made a note to self and it's on my laptop, when I drop my SAILOR off at base after PIR day, I'll change our group name to Alumni of...
Happy packing everyone!!
Diannep, that would be tough to have to watch everyone first. If they go from shortest to tallest my son would of been one of the first ones
