Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend. I just wanted to send a reminder that I still have a few ribbon orders that I have not received payment for. All the ribbons that have been paid for have been shipped. It is not too late to order or pay for your order if you have already sent the info. Just let me know by sending me a message on this site or an email to uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com Thanks so much :-)
My daddy got to go home today! He is not going to be able to attend PIR because of his health, he isn't able to travel much. I will definantly be getting a DVD. I am ready however to get this week over with! We will start our travels on Monday. I am praying that everyone will have safe travels!
Kendra: I too hope he is released tomorrow and gets better. Will he be attending PIR?
AZKMom: You may want to call Public Affairs tomorrow and ask this. We have always heard that it is better to have someone on the approved list with the "extras" but can't say that for sure. Here's the number:
847-688-2405
As far as the gate passes, you can print as many as you like of those and give them to your friends who will be attending. Obviously RTC wants you to be very careful who you hand these out to (that is why they ask us not to share passwords with one another on here...so everyone keep that password/form letter in a safe place....better yet, MEMORIZE it!).
Please post on here and let us know what you are told so we know how to advise in the future. Thanks!
@Kendra: Sending you prayers and healing....sorry to hear about your dad. I hope things are much better by the time you get to read this...
Good morning Navy family!!!
Okay ladies....I checked the Boston Market site and discovered it would be cheaper per family if we each ordered our own dinners. For example, my family of 5 would pay $32 for 5 large turkey breasts and 6 large gourmet sides of our choosing. That's a lot of food. Someone ordering for a smaller family of 3 would pay about $20. Not per person. Per family. There's a Boston Market in Waukegan which I think is closer than Gurnee? Either way, both have that deal. I couldn't find on the website the $89.99 dinner for 12. That's a lot of food to reheat (a whole turkey verses parts to reheat). And, being in hotel rooms, the smaller/per family dinner orders may be easier to navigate. I think there will be enough kitchettes and microwaves to get everything ready to eat in a decent amount of time.
Here's the menu link:

I'm a little leary of getting a ton of food thinking we'll have a full day with our Sailors. There's talk of leaving sometime on Thursday to a week later from my sources. I'm feeling T-day should be simpler. I'm not bowing out. Just trying to see all angles and be prepared.
So..........I think I will call in my order later on this week rather than commit now. A few more days may give more info. Plus, my SR stated in my last letter and her brief call on Thursday that she just wants family and not a big shindig with a lot of people around. With the weather possibly being iffy, I'm still planning on T-day dinner at the Lodge in our rooms instead of hunting down a restaurant in snow/wind/rain. And, if the sun is shining and it's fairly nice (which I hear on that side of the lakes it's been windy and coooooooooooold), we can find something to do nearby after we eat.
For those staying at the Lodge and still wanting to 'eat in', I'd be happy to do the food run Thursday morning - perhaps right after picking up Sailors if such is the case.
Thoughts?? I so wish we could sit face to face and plan all this out!!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend. I got some great news in the mail yesterday. 8 days until I fly out! Am I packed and ready. HECK NO! I haven't even had time to shop for what to wear :-/
Wow, so close! @Kendra sorry to hear about your father, glad he is doing better. We have been remodeling so been busy with that. Need to go today and get a warm sweater to wear to graduation. My son says the wind cuts to the bone. Happy Sunday everyone.
To continue my thoughts on how to make this work....if they arrive later than us and for whatever reason don't have a gate pass, can they park off base and walk on by themselves and wait or do one of us need to be with them in that case as well.
Alright....I know there have been so many questions on the RTC page about this in various forms but I have a question about extra guests. Since it is SUCH a small group graduating, I know extra guests won't be a problem. My question is more of a logistics one. Does a guest that is ON the access list need to be with the extra guest? We will not all be traveling to GL together but rather meeting there. Do we all need to meet up outside the base somewhere and divide ourselves between 2 cars that have passes AND have us all together? Or can us access list people get on base and have the other 2 drive on if I give them a gate pass but they aren't on the list? I understand they will have to wait at the visitors center but can they even come on base by themselves or does one of us need to be with them? I know that was kind of rambling....I hope I made my question clear.
