Diana: On our end it would be 4.... total right now if there was commitment. So not an army... LOL. But I would love the opportunity to break bread if CB turns out to be OK with that... Thank you for taking time to organize the dinner!!!! :-)
Cheryl, how many would that be on your end? I think if you wanted to jump in last minute (and no one else RSVPs yes), then we should be okay. We have 21 right now and 2 dinner meals supposedly feeds 24 people. We could probably stretch that a couple more peeps. Are you staying at the Lodge? I think once we set up food and people get their plates, we can all spread out wherever - back in our family spaces if we wish. We could simply have a serving/eating window of, say, noon - 1:30pm. HOPEFULLY our SR's will have that time with us. Egads......the timing will depend upon what they will have....
On a similar note, I got a letter from my SR today. She indicated they are hearing 'grad and go' which is her interpretation. Sounds like they could be leaving shortly after graduation. May not be much Thanksgiving liberty time if they are taking advantage of flying kids out THAT day when there might be more flights available. Goodness - what if we get this dinner thing going for 20+ and end up just us???? Better be hungry!!!!
Diana: Currently, CB has said she wants to do Thanksgiving Dinner with only family.... How much notice do I need to give if that changes?
It's probably easier to do it just by family, I don't mind at all, with my son you could probably count our family as 5, lol. He might be small but man that kid can eat.
Just found out my ex will be coming also(he just bought his ticket today), but he has to fly back on Thanksgiving, so he will not be at Thanksgiving just will be there for the Graduation.
Busy week, grandson was in the hospital for about 3 days (he is 2 months old and had salmonella) and found out my mother had a mini stroke on Saturday (she called me yesterday to ask me if she should got to the doctor, grrrr). But... everyone is healthy again.
Sending positive thoughts for everyones SR's, next couple weeks will probably be stressful for them.
UPDATED RSVPs for Thanksgiving dinner at "the Lodge":
Diana (me) - 5
Jenn - 2
Tiffani - 3
sjs1221 - 5
Alohagirl - 3
AKZ - 3
21 total at this point....still 2 dinner meal packages....
@navywife: Did you mention earlier on that you would be interested in the Thanksgiving day dinner group at the Navy Lodge? If so, let me know so I can adjust our count. Even with another family of at least 4 people, the 2 dinner packages sound like they'd be enough....
Okay Chicas, this is who I have so far for our T-day dinner at "the Lodge" I feel like I'm missing someone...:
Diana (me) - 5
Jenn - 2
Tiffani - 3
sjs1221 - 5
Alohagirl - 2
AKZ - 3
That's 20 of us which warrants TWO dinner packages. Might I suggest one turkey and one spiral ham?
Here is the menu per Tiffani's research from Boston Market:
Complete Holiday Whole Turkey Banquet for 12 (I think you just substitute the spiral ham and all else is the same...)
1- 11 lb. Whole Turkey (average size)
1- 32 oz. Spinach Artichoke Dip & Crackers
2- 32 oz. Side Mashed Potatoes
2- 32 oz. Side Fresh Vegetable Stuffing
1- 32 oz. Side Cranberry Walnut Relish
2- 32 oz. Side Gravy
12 Dinner Rolls
1 Apple Pie
1 Pumpkin Pie
***We'll need to pick up beverages which we can do that morning (or Tuesday afternoon/evening). Someone can pick up the meals and someone else can pick up additional items. I have rented a Ford Escape so there's plenty of room in my vehicle to get everything we'll need.....
Not sure if this includes dinnerware but that's an easy pick up once we see what's in our rooms with the kitchens. We'll need at least 2 kitchens to heat the food in. I have one room with a kitchen and I thought I heard someone else did as well.
Price will be approximately $180 (maybe tax) divided by six families. SO that would be about $30-40 a family. Maybe $50 tops including any other stuff we'll need (like beverages, butter for rolls (if needed) and plates/utensils, etc and possible fresh salad/dressing to round out the meal.) VERY doable. If we choose to pay per person then we can divide the total amount per person and your amount will be however many people attend. Looks like the largest family groups have 5 in them. That feels fair to me since I'm the 5. But whatever you all want to do is fine.
Please, if you are in this dinner gig, (and I almost hate to say it but.....) please commit to it so no one person is holding the money bag once the dinners are ordered and paid for.....
I'll call Boston Market to check details on the last day we can order and when do we pay. I'm assuming they'll want a credit card to hold the order.
Wow! Almost down to the 10--9-8-7-6.....countdown!!
This is going to be GREAT!!
Betsy: I think it was cool in the PIR Hall over the summer when the a/c was on. I would imagine it will be comfortable now with maybe some heat on if necessary. Good to be prepared though!
You all will sit in your division section, which will be marked with the division honor graduate(s) standing in front of your section. When they circle the hall, you can see all up close...unless yours is like my sailor (vertically challenged!) whom I never saw until liberty was called (hard to find him even then!). I was glad I ordered the PIR DVD so I could see him marching!
Just put letter #25 in the mail - doesn't include jokes and random stuff that I send. I also sent out a couple other letters and sent off my payment for my ribbons to Lala! And made a shopping date with a friend for Sunday. I can't believe it's only 15 more days you guys!! I'm finding myslef pretty useless these days. I have a pile of work on my desk and I spend time online trying to find the funniest jokes to send. Welcome to my new normal.
Diana - I'll post in the Thanksgiving thread too but there will be 2 of us for turkey day dinner. I also sent a mom over here from the BootCamp Moms page. She has someone in 008 and had heard something about our plans. Can't remember who it was - so if your reading this and it's you - say HI!
@Betsy and TJL- Thank you for the quick response to my PIR question. RTC sure has made it pretty simple for everyone!
