Hoping for letters for EVERYONE today!!
@Jenn- ((((HUG)))). Your message to him was spot-on. I know its so hard as parents to get letters like that - it hurts when all we want to do is make everything OK, but can't. Fingers crossed for an upbeat letter today for you! I'm glad to hear his running is improving!!! :-)
I got a letter yesterday. I wasn't sure if I was going to see one or not. He had written me a short one when he must have had a little free time on the 27th but he wrote on Sunday too. My poor boy - he says that everything is fine but that he has an ear infection - a "serious ear infection" according to the doctor there. He was going to sick ship as he called it on Monday for a check up. They had given him antibiotics and pain killers and he had been on them a couple days but still wasn't feeling better. I know he's probably better by now - he is a pretty fast healer as long as he gives the medicine time to work. I just feel bad for him because he is so worried about getting behind if they put him in SIQ and he's worried about screwing up because he can't hear real well right now. He said that his morale is real low and that he's gotten homesick again. I just feel so bad. I know that he's feeling low because of the ear infection but I just want to hug him. I wrote him and let him know that everyone gets sick at boot camp and not to worry and that it won't set him back and to just work twice as hard when he starts feeling better. He's worried because Hell Week is coming up and he doesn't want to start behind everyone. I'm hoping that by now he is already feeling back to himself. I was expecting to get a letter like this - I just always expected it at the beginning of boot camp - not over half way through! One good thing that he did say is that his running has improved significantly - YAY!
ok - off to work.
I sent CB makeup last week for graduation pictures/PIR and she was SOOOOO appreciative! Said timing of delivery was perfect because she wasn't able to go to NEX since she was SIQ from having a wisdom tooth pulled that day... and thought she would have to borrow from someone else. I sent her small travel bottles of skin polishing scrub and day/night cream, concealer, eyeliner, mascara, lip gloss, blush and tweezers (wasn't sure if they would let her have the tweezers... I'm sure her eyebrows need them by now!!). Packed it all in a small makeup bag for easy stowing in her compartment. She had no problem receiving it, so I at least know Div 008 (and likely 007 since they bunk together) is OK with the makeup package.
I didn't try to send her hair straightner so I don't know that policy... not even sure if she would need it as much after having 19 inches cut off her hair just before bootcamp.
I think what you can send them depends on the RDC and maybe even what DIV they are in. If they ask you to send something then they have probably been told they can have it. I sent everything my daughter asked me to send and that included hair straightener, shampoo, conditioner, foundation makeup, mascara, and eyeliner. She actually called and ask for these things and I told her that I had read she wasn't allowed to have them and she said her RDC said they could for pictures and performances. She was in the Choir. Even though she had the makeup for pictures they didn't end up getting to wear it. They were told there wasn't enough time :-(We had also sent a small tablet, and envelopes with address labels and stamps. She had asked for these in a letter and said she had permission to receive them.
If you do send it mark the outside of the package with a list of what's inside: straightener, shampoo, makeup etc for Pictures and PIR. They will make them open it in front of them and make them lock it up until they are allowed to use it.
I wouldn't send anything other than stamps and prepared envelopes without them asking for it.
