Good Morning to all.  Just think...less than a month from now, you will have been with your sailors!  Does it seem possible?  You are almost there!  It will be quite a special Thanksgiving for you!  HOOYAH!

You can print as many gate passes as you need. You will want the guests who are not on the list to arrive with someone who is on the list. If you take a shuttle you won't need the pass for that. You should be able to get as many family members in as you want with this small PIR group.

The Navy Lodge is very close to the base but a little further from the gate if that makes sense. We stayed at the Navy Lodge and left the hotel at 6:30 and was in the PIR hall by 7:20 But, we had a very large PIR group of 13 DIV's.

When you leave your hotel to go to the base don't line up in the far right lane. That lane ends and you will have to merge over one lane. So you will have much less wait time if you skip that lane to begin with. If at all possible check out the drive the day before PIR when you arrive. That way you will be familiar with the streets and area. If you are staying at the Navy Lodge ask at the front desk for a  temporary pass to shop at the Nex. There is one just down the street from the hotel and you can shop there without military ID if you have the pass :-)

I hope everyone has a great day, I will be back this afternoon. I am off to clean a house and then to pick up supplies for the PIR ribbons. :-)

Good question AZK....I'd like to know as well. We only have 4 in our family group. But I am curious about the parking issue. Since we're at the Navy Lodge and it's so close, the 5 minute or less drive over there at those wee hours in the morning doesn't seem so daunting....

Okay....question for some our more veteran moms out there.  Since our group for PIR will be so small, there will be room for more than 4 guests.  We will definitely have extra people at PIR.  My question is about gate passes.  Are we only allowed one gate pass for the vehicle with the 4 that are on his guest list?  Or can I print off more than one gate pass for others that will be attending as well?  I've seen mention of people parking elsewhere and walking on to RTC.  Is this what will have to happen with extra guests?

No problem, Betsy!

Okay Diana, that sound great. I look forward to making your ribbons :-)

Dianne, you are probably right.  I'm sorry if I confused anyone.  My sailor's situation was different since it was during a holiday stand down.  When my son flew to A school, they did let my husband get a pass since my son and I were already through the gate at the time.  I guess in Albuquerque they don't get very many requests like that, lol.

Ship12, some will fly out of O'Hare and others may fly out of Midway.

Do the sailors usually fly out of O'hare?
Comment by diannep on October 24, 2011 at 3:09pm
Good idea, Jenn.  They are usually bussed at about 2 a.m. to the airport to wait for their flights.  I always recommend that people return to their hotel room after dropping off their sailor after PIR liberty and take a short nap before heading to the airport.
Comment by Jenn (Proud AO Mom) on October 24, 2011 at 3:00pm
Thanks dianne - I think I also read somewhere that you want to be there before your sailor if possible - since many airlines will move the group of them up for ticketing - otherwise they are stuck waiting in the line with you just to get your gate pass.
