I saved almost $600 on airfare by going with Southwest, which is "changeable", as opposed to going refundable elsewhere. I know Southwest doesn't fly everywhere, but it's worthwhile to go directly through the airline and pay a change fee. Check Air Tran. I hear they have good prices. Be careful of travel sites like Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline - they charge a hefty change fee on top of what the airline and/or hotel charge. Read the fine print!! When I booked my flight the return flights on Sunday were already almost full, so we're coming back on Saturday. Don't wait too long - it IS Thanksgiving week, the most traveled holiday of the year!

maliz: Being Thanksgiving weekend, I wouldn't wait on booking your flights. I would go ahead and book. But don't do refundable. As you have found out...too expensive. Check with the different airlines and find out their "change" fee. Mine was still cheaper to do that than to get refundable tickets (and I had to change mine). Cars are not hard to rent...Ohare has alot of them. ACE is a company that has good car rental prices, that I was told. Your son is still in the division/PIR group, right? He hasn't been setback?

The meet and greet is so that families can mingle with other families who all have a sailor graduating the next day. It will give you a chance to meet many of your friends from Navy 4 Moms but there will be other families there as well. Sadly a lot of people do not know about Navy 4 Moms. The hotel serves hot hor dourves that are free. But you pay for any drinks you get. We took our own bottled water in with us.

Tammie: I missed my M&G but I know it is a time to meet the different Navy families, not just Navy For Mom's people...but that is the highlight...to meet the ladies you have been talking to on here. At the Ramada, it is free and they provide some light appetizers and a cash bar (drink vouchers given if you are staying there). It is from 6-8 and held the night before PIR each week. It is very informal and just a "gathering" place to meet and chat.
