My Navy son is my youngest also...hard when the "baby" leaves but at 23, he was so ready and I think I was too! I do miss him, but it is so much easier knowing how much he enjoys what he is doing...loves it. The quiet house now with both of my grown guys gone is almost too quiet sometimes....so it is nice when the dogs bark! :-)

Oh, Lala, it is hard when the youngest leaves the nest. That's what I have just gone through with my son in boot camp. It sure helped to be able to come here and talk about it.

The Ramada takes care of the Meet and greet and whoever sets it up in N4M's doesn't really have to do much. I did it for our group and I am in NC. You just set up the event on here and then remind people in the group to RSVP and when it is close to PIR call the Ramada and tell them how many divisions are graduating and how many you are expecting from N4M's. So it is pretty easy. And diannep is so right; we don't mind answering questions at all. I am more than happy to help.

Thanks for the compliments on my ribbons. I already have some orders for some in this group. I even had a mom send me an email yesterday and tell me she wanted ribbons too but her son doesn't leave for boot camp until March. That is by far the most advance notice I have had lol. I love doing them and it makes me feel so good when people send me messages or call me to tell me how much better they look than they thought they would. Even the people who work at the base checking people in at PIR have commented on how awesome they are. You have no idea how proud it makes me to have family members wearing my ribbons to such an important event. It makes me feel all warm inside. And my 17yr old son told me yesterday that now he is thinking about joining the navy as well. I have mixed feelings about it. He is the the baby, my last one at home and I don't know if I can do this again. I feel like everyone is leaving me. But I will not discourage him from something he really wants to do. It looks like I will be on this site for a very long time lol.

Someone who lives close by usually helps out to plan it. Just to get there a little early and set things up, name tags and such. And is usually the local contact with the Ramada Inn. And yes if a seperate room is available that is a better choice.

The MeetNGreet is held at the Ramada Inn in Waukegan. It is the night before PIR, from 6-8 pm. Put on by the Ramada for ALL Navy families, not just N4M's. They provide some appetizers and have a cash bar. If you all ask, they will let you have it in a separate room there (rather than the lounge area) which they have done for past groups (as long as the room is available). There is no charge for this room. I have heard from other PIR groups that the separate room was much nicer .

Tammie - I think they have something called Meet and Greet the evening before graduation from 6-8 pm at the Ramada. Not sure who arranges it. I love Lala ribbons but looking at them made me realize that I would really like to make some for myself. Lala does a really good job and they are beautiful and the price is terrific. I just thought it was something I could do and feel like I am closer to my son.

JM - I was in the middle of mowing my lawn this afternoon when I remembered I needed to mail a letter to my daughter. Left the dogs in the back yard so I didn't have to put the mower away and lock up the garage and then I jumped in the car and flew to the post office. LOL
