Just a reminder that the mail you all are sending is held from them for approx 2 weeks until the division Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. They can write/mail their first letters then, which may be collected right before they receive their "held" mail...so therefore, in your letters, they may ask why you haven't written! Just know they got that mail right after letters were collected!
Angie,
Here's the link to the Sailors in Pensacola A School. You can ask the veteran mom there--Beachbunny--about leave taken during A school~~
Okay, Sarge let me know that the Full Moon Family Restaurant (open 24 hours) on the Skokie Hwy 41 just south of Buckley Road on the rightside is serving a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Sailors eat free there for this meal~~ Click on the Contact link to see a map of their location
http://www.fullmoonopen24hours.com/index.html
He also said that alot of restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving, so if you have a place you'd like to go, please call them to double-check. Also check with your hotel if they have a restaurant as that might be an option~~
chowdercall911: we did get a call, last Saturday, for about 5 minutes. She arrived on 10/1 also. We did get that call, that she had arrived safe, and to look for "the box.' Then, as I understood, we weren't supposed to get a "real call" until 3 weeks in, but for some reason she was able to call Saturday morning. Maybe because she volunteered for a job(?) Possibly she got special privileges?
The only letter we have gotten is the form letter. Nothing personal yet. Our mailman is lucky...He delivers, before I'm home from work, otherwise I'd have a lawn chair set up by the box!!
No letter here either except for the form letter. I have sent a couple already. My flight is booked. So excited to see my Sailor.
Oh my gosh!! How exciting!! I can't wait to meet both of you, at Sarge's meet and greet Good luck with everything...keep us in the loop, we ALL have been there!! How are you feeling...other than tired of waiting to hear from your SR again?
Our call wasn't bad, she was just hard to understand since she was on speaker phone, on a cell, so bad speaker. Either way I'm going on "no news is good news!"
Question...everyone waiting on letters from your SR, what day did they arrive at RTC, because I was under the impression that they weren't allowed to write until week 3. Mine just got there on 10/6/14, should I be stalking my mailman already? LOL I did get the form letter.
Thanks chowdercall911! How is your baby girl?!? I'll bet you have so much to tell him in your letters! I think we all are impatient, our phone call was longer than that, but she was rattling off so much, about what's happened that it is sort of a blur...just good to hear her voice. You're right, a phone call is much better.
Nick's mom: They get paid for Basic, so I can't see why it doesn't count towards earning leave. Of course the veteran mom's will know better.
Thank you Chowdercall911, I'll write that down....for myself, and all the friends and relatives asking :)
No letters received in Austin either. I'm guessing mail will take about 4 days each way.
