OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

For those of you with SRs staying in GL for A School.

After PIR on Friday they will have about an hour with you before they have to go back to there ship on the RTC side and move over to the TSC side and get checked in, this process may take several hours.

They will call you again when they are ready to go for the rest of the evening. They should also have liberty Sat and Sun from approx 6am to 10pm, these hours can vary. Your "sailor" will need to be back at his ship on time, so taking him back to base at least a half hour early is a must.

You will also need to check them in and out of their ship, and the person checking them out must be the person checking them back in.

I will post more about those of you with SRs staying in GL as you get a little closer. :) It is coming fast though!!!

ADDED a "MAPS of RTC/Metra Parking" Discussion in the DISCUSSION FORUM.

THE METRA (TRAIN) PARKING AND STATION - If you continue past RTC Gate 8 on Ohio you will head straight into the Metra Parking Lot. The slots are numbered. You park, remember your number, go back to the entrance and get a ticket and back to your car to put the ticket in it.It's about $2-$4.

The METRA station (on Sheridan) is across the train tracks...so there is no bridge etc. going straight across. You have to walk back down the hill to Buckley and then up it on the other side. It is a moderately steep hill. Someone told me that there is parking on the Metra side for the Metra but I could NOT find it when I went, so it is new or I am just plain blind :-). If you are just taking the train into Chicago that is great because everything is on one side, but if you are using it for PIR rememeber that you will have to walk down the hill and back up and then into RTC. Quite a walk, but if that doesn't bother you then no worries.

WALK FROM THE PARKING GARAGE - From the Parking Garage to the Hall...about 300+ ft to the closest set of bleachers.

WALKING FROM THE SHUTTLE - The Shutttles drop off outside of RTC Gate 8. There is a hairpin turn for those driving, so if you have to follow that then you have about 300 ft to the North entrance of the Hall ( I have not had it confirmed that there is a North entrance but I am pretty sure there is.). I also do not know if there is a security check on that side or if you have to walk around to the South side to the VC.

PARKING - There is a covered Parking Garage adjacent to the Visitors Center (The visitors center The USS Yorktown then flows into Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall. It's not all one building, but that's the direction it all goes) It has at least two stories too it and there is uncovered overflow as well. There is handicapped parking and elevators.

There may even be more overflow depending on the PIR size. PIR parking used to be all the way across the base in the Chapel Parking Lot, so I imagine if they need it they will use it.

I am going to keep this post to just the basics about parking and add more as I answer the other questions. I also have a Discussion with Maps.

There is a train station across the street from the gate going into PIR.

We were thinking of riding the train from the city to PIR. Does anyone know how far the train station is from the base?

Does anyone know what parking is like for PIR?  Is it a long walk from parking to the venue?

Thanks.
