WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hi everyone, I'm new here.. Just found out my boyfriend is Ship 04 Division 802. Looking forward to meeting others who have loved ones in that division, I don't think these next 6+ weeks could go by fast enough!

amanda-- my son left the 4th/arrived the 5th and we received the form letter yesterday.

Has anyone who's SR left Oct 4th gotten a letter?

Comment by countrymom on October 14, 2012 at 10:54pm

He left his GF a vm, she was at school and missed the call. All he said was he would not be writing for a while, but we could send all the letters we want LOL. And that he would call again in a few weeks.  Glad to meet all of you 801'ers, Its gonna be a long road, nice to have some fellow travelers :)

You can pay cash at check in and they don't put a hold on your card. Or at least they didn't when I stayed there and I reserved the room with a card and paid with cash :-)

The Navy Lodge in Great Lakes is different than any of the other ones at other bases. You just tell them you will be there for PIR and they will hold the room in your Sailors name. They only ask that your Sailor stop by the front desk during the weekend but they really don't enforce that.

The Navy Gate Way Inn that is on base requires that you have military ID to reserve the room.

Countrymom, I think Theresa320, runningagain55, and Katherine234 also have SRs in 801. We are planning on driving and have made our reservations.  So your SR got to make a call last week? Did his GF say he sounded like he was doing well?  Wow, I'm trying not to expect any for a couple more weeks and just hoping they stay healthy to make it through.

Comment by countrymom on October 14, 2012 at 10:32pm

Just a little military FYI ...... If you are staying at the Navy Lodge you will be required to have a DOD ID card. I made reservations yesterday and they never checked my eligibility for the stay, but I asked the question as hubby is the service member and I am the dependent and he is not traveling to PIR. Just want to make sure the new to military are aware it is a DOD lodge and requires an ID card :)

Treymom, Proudmama, our boys are all together in 801. Any other 801's around? Mine did get a call last week, but he called his GF, not his mother! MEN!  Anything I can do, any questions I can answer, hubby is 21 years retired army, been around the block a time or two.  Are you both traveling for PIR? I have my plane ticket and hotel reservations made :)
