For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on October 13, 2012 at 7:04pm: I should say on the packages for make-up and contacts. They WILL be opened in front of an RDC and iinspected for content. Along with ANY bulky mail and photos you send. They will store the make-up and contacts or they are held for them (not sure which)

Please do not send too much...they have very little storage for letters and photos. Some mail excess letters home (many send a manilla envelope with pre-paid postage for the recruits to do so.

We often suggest photocopying pics onto the back of your letters to save space.

I am guessing maybe they are suggesting FedEx for the packages for the makeup and contacts. USPS does have the flat rate Express mauil boxes though. Hmmmm....

We "veterans"...our Sailors PIR'd a while ago and as you can all see...things change and we like to keep up to date to pass correct info. Any assist and help is sooo welcome...some of you may be familiar with military life and then at the end of eight weeks you will know so much yourselves! This site is Navy Sponsored has a Site Admin...but it is run by volunteers
