Dena, It looks like there are males and females on Ship 03 Div 19! Let's see if there are more soon.
Regarding packages and the form letter, my son wrote in his own handwriting, "Send packages via Fedex and letters via USPS." He did not say anything else other than Dear Mom & Dad in his own hand, so I thought it meant something.
Still looking for anyone from Ship 14 :(
Michelle - Did your questions get answered about phone calls. Just want to make sure :-)
Dena - Yes they have Integrated Divisions at BC. They are in the same Division and on the samw ship but housed in seperate compartments.
The callsforrecruits cards are only 30 min a piece. 10 get "eaten" each time you use it so it is basically a one time use. IF your recruit gets a 20 minute or longer call...they will have to hang up and call again.
Not baggin' on them ...just sayin' :-)
The SHIP number is the number of the Barracks the Recruits are housed in. The Ships at RTC are all named after real Naval Vessels. 14 is the USS Arizona. I hear that they have artifacts of the one from Pearl Harbor on the Quarterdeck (explains the term).
There are 14 different SHIPS on RTC. Each one can hold about 12 Divisions.
DIV is Division. The Division Number is the number for the Division your SR (Seaman Recruit) is in. Divisions have 88+ recruits to start with. They may lose some along the way due to illness or injury or other setbacks and gain some who are being recycled back into a Division. Most graduate with at least 75 + recruits. Regular numbered Divisions go in Consecutive order starting with 001 at the beginning of the Military Fiscal Year (Oct 1). 318 is the 318th Division this fiscal year. Regular Divisions are paired up in "Brother" divisions. 317 and 318 are Brother Divisions. They will train together and go through Battlestations together.
800's start with 801 at the beginning of the Fiscal Year and continue on consecutively when they have them. They do not have an 800 Division every PIR. 800 Divisions are for those with SPECOP (SPECial OPerations) contracts. If there is more than one then they will be Brother Divisions.
900's start with 901 at the beginning of the Fiscal Year and continue consecutively each TG/PIR (Training Group/Pass-in-Review=Graduation) This TG is 47. It will have a 900 Division of 947. There is almost always a 900 Division every PIR. Last year they did not have one for the April 1, 2011 PIR. (Was that an April Fools?!) Sometimes there can be two or even three if RTC skips a week of PIR. One of them will reflect the TG number. If there is more than one then they will be Brother Divisions.
We do not know how many Divisions this PIR group has yet. Thank you for reporting them! RTC was posting it weekly...but lately it has been "behind" and they then post two at a time...so it may be about 10 days or so for the "Official" on the RTC website. Because of the possible delay...we keep a watch on this though and as we see them being reported keep track and kind of see where it is going to end...we also watch for a report for a Division in the next PIR date as well.
Once we know better about the Divisions we will open up Division Discussions for the Divisions. In the meantime, you can all get to know each other as a group! Many of you will attend the Meet and Greets the night before PIR and that way you will know each other even if you are not in the same division.
The Form Letter that I have DOES mention "USPS...express and overnight mail" and not to send food items "due to dietary restrictions and sanitary concerns".
However, you may send make up for the females for Pictures and PIR and contacts for PIR later on in BC. I used to say that only send these items IF your recruit asks but they have it stated in the FAQ's on RTC FB (clickable link):
WHAT CAN I SEND OR NOT SEND MY RECRUIT:
Recruits are allowed to receive letters, cards, photos, stationery, envelopes and stamps. You should first ask your recruit if he/she is allowed to receive any newsaper/magazine articles as it is up to each division's Recruit Division Commanders (RDCs) if they may or may not receive those. Sending cards in colored envelopes is fine. Sending musical cards is strongly discouraged as your recruit may not appreciate having to open such a card in the presence of his/her shipmates where everyone can hear it. Do NOT send any type of glitter in cards or letters to your recruit. Please keep in mind they are in military training and do get frequent inspections and any glitter found in their racks (bunks) will cause them to receive a negative mark. Keep your letters/cards simple.Recruits may receive one pair of contacts and one week's worth of solution to wear for photos and/or graduation. Female recruits are permitted to receive minimal makeup items to wear for photos and/or graduation. Recruits may NOT receive any other type of care packages or food items. All food items are discarded.
bluesarasota - "The form letter stated that packages should be sent via Fedex."
I have a copy of a Form Letter from April of this year and it doesn't say anythoing about FedEx...plase check yours again for us? Just in case there is something new Thanks!
