Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Glad to know that although you were heartbroken your daugter didn't get to attend her original PIR, at least it didn't come out of left field that she wasn't feeling well. It's hard to turn off that "mom" thing and not worry when we don't know how they are. Much harder than I had anticipated.

Anyone have any info, comments, reviews, etc.??My cousins son just had his PIR yesterday and called me after to tell me he had seen my son and he was ok!!! So excited to get just a tidbit of info!! Lets hope we all get our letters today!!

Craig: Love the highway sign.. so true..When my phone rings, I sprint, climb or crawl to get to it. Crazed is the perfect word!!

Comment by ochaos on October 13, 2012 at 2:11am: After PIR some of them only want to hang out and take a long hot shower and relax. Make sure if you make plans to go into Chicago that you plan plenty of time for traffic as it can be bad and make them late and that is not a good thing.

It goes like this.... My son was sitting at the USO all day at the Chicago Airport. We were trading text messages throughout the day, and both my wife talked with him a few times before we got the final texts that he was jumping on the bus and then I sent him a couple notes that got no response.

I suspect that (maybe) he had been sitting there charging his phone and when it came time for him to get moving and get on the bus, he gathered up his stuff (but not the phone plugged into the charger in the wall somewhere nearby) and poof! He was gone.

Adding evidence to my theory is the fact that when we finally got the scripted call on Sunday, it came from a pay phone and not his cell number.

OR...... my son ran off and joined the circus and this whole Navy thing is an elaborate hoax to confuse his old man.

It was the strangest thing to me, along with this username/password paper. Maybe he got recruited for Cryptology and became a secret spy guy. lol
