For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the timeto read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hope everyone is ok. I don't like hearing about them getting sick. One more thing to worry about.

Comment by diannep on October 12, 2012 at 12:46pm: Treymom: Yes, most of the SRs do get sick while there...whether they were ones to get sick often before bootcamp or not. My theory is: Lots of shots at one time (has to be a shock to their immune systems), close quarters, etc. But it happens in each PIR group...lots of illnesses. Sometimes they are hospitalized (you may not find that out until they are out!)...But they recover, become sailors, and do great!

I have been reading some other PIR groups posts and seems like a lot of the SRs get sick while at bc. One more thing to make up stories in my head.......

Comment by Hunter's mom on October 12, 2012 at 10:58am: I still didn't get a letter, but I did get the recruiter today. My son is ship 12 div 0231. That division number looks funny compared to others I've seen. I've seen div 023. Can anyone tell me what is correct?

Comment by Kim W. on October 12, 2012 at 9:22am: Wow 19 weeks is a very long time. I hope you were able to speak with her at some point. No news must mean good news. I worry a little because my daughter doesn't get sick very often( only 1 time in lat 3 yrs) but when she does get sick it takes her down for several weeks. Ugh... Lets all just pray that all of our recruits stay happy, healthy, safe & secure.
