OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Wow TammySue, that is a long time to be in boot camp. I have a friend whose son just had PIR a couple weeks ago and he was there 17 weeks. Such a long hard ride for him and his mom. When did you daughter finish bootcamp or when was she supposed to finish? My daughter has been in almost 2 and a half years as well. She left for boot May 25th 2010 and had PIR July 23rd 2010. She is now out on Carrier doing some training to prepare for deployment.

I remember wanting a phone call so bad when she was in boot camp but everytime the phone rang and I saw that 847 area code I would pray it was not bad news. i hope this 2nd boot camp journey experience for you is a lot less stressful and you get to experience PIR on time :-)

DizLizard:  Remember, the "beauty" of Southwest Airlines is that you can change your flights with no change fee....just the fare differential (which could actually be cheaper!).

Welcome, Dena!  Glad you found the group!  Your form letter should arrive soon!

My daughter called me yesterday for some information and told me her PIR date is currently 30 Nov 12.  She arrived at BC on 2 Oct. I haven't received the letter with the information in it yet but she told me it was sent.

Federal Holidays are treated like Sundays and so do not "count" in the counting of days of training. So yes hang in there, those arriving on the 5th could very well be in this group...even some on that following Tuesday the 9th.

Here's a post I did on the "counting.of days" at BC.

Boot Camp Days ~ How to Count them...

Boot Camp is anywhere from 7.5 to 9 weeks (longer around Holiday time in Nov to Jan), actual weeks of time there. This is all generic and based on an "ideal" scenario of 8 weeks.

"Week1" is "P" Processing days...usually about 5 days could be longer. "Weeks 2-7" are Training Weeks.
"Week 8" is the final week and PIR. P days are counted P1, P2, P3 etc. up to 5. After 5 I believe they then says "P" Hold...but that is one I have not been able to confirm yet.
Days of Training (DOT) are counted W1D1...Week1 Day1...and so on up to 5. W2D1 is Week2 Day1.
Here is an exemplar based on a recruit whose W1D1 day is on a Wednesday. (I'm not starting with P days since they can vary)
W - W1D1
Th - W1D2
F - W1D3
Saturday and Sunday do not count in the counting of "P" or DOT days.
M - W1D4
T - W1D5
W - W2D1
So, their Day 1 will always be on the same day... ...except if there is a Federal Holiday. Then, it pushes it forward a Day. So,...the above SR has Day3 on Friday...Monday is a Federal Holiday...it is treated like a Sunday. Now, T is Day 4 instead of M...and you start counting from there again. W - Day5 Th - Day1.

Does your head hurt now?! Free Smiley Courtesy of www.millan.net
When you write your recruit...ask them to write the actual date and the DOT next to it.

@jackflash - nothing - and i dug i every pocket I could !!  I too am thinking 12/7 may be my day... perhaps for the 800 divs they wait....

Comment by JackFlash on October 12, 2012 at 1:08am

My son got there a day later--- late on the 5th and I'd forgotten about the Holiday Monday entirely.  I'm getting doubtful now about the 11/30 PIR for him.  Still hopeful, but that would be pushing it I think.

I am hoping I belong in this group too!

I went ahead and booked flights with the southwest sale. if we have to pay the fare difference that is ok if we don't we saved some money :)

my son got to GL 10/4 box on Tuesday no letter yet and the recruiter did not call back with an adress today
