WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

@ aprildawn9209:

Unfortunately I have yet to receive any letters.  As I said, my son left Oct 2, I received his box Mon, 10/8 .  I really would have liked to take advantage of the SW fares but I just cant chance his PIR date being different.  But I suppose dealing with Navy life is dealing with uncertainty.  I am too anxious for that :)

I am just happy my son is in BC and safe.   SO..the anxiety continues....

I was going to say...remember they had a Federal Holiday thrown in which does caose a bit if a delay.
Comment by JackFlash on October 12, 2012 at 12:55am

Hi Linda--- Was there anything in the box that indicated the PIR date, or Division?

Comment by LindaG on October 12, 2012 at 12:50am

@JackFlash, I am in the same situation (although I did get the box on 10/09) ) ....My son arrived on 10/04 (late - got the I'm here call at 3 am east coast).  From my understanding, that only gave him 1 Processing  day before a 3 day holiday weekend, and   P days didnt start again till Tuesday . Perhaps that is the delay.  United was also having a great sale (152 round trip from DC) . Hopefully that sale did not end tonight. I love your idea to send these letters to the "Lost Boys" division :)

My son left Oct 1st and still no letter!!!! And I can't get the recruiter to call me back!!! Not happy :(
Comment by JackFlash on October 12, 2012 at 12:23am

Ugh... I don't dare book it without knowing for sure.  No letter, no box today.

I guess I'll hope for a seat sale!  I'm still hoping that he made it into one of these groups and doesn't have to wait that extra week.  I haven't sent any letters yet, but if I don't get anything tomorrow I think I'll send something and hope it finds its way to him.  I'll just address it to Cap'n Hook of the Lost Boys Division.

Yvonne:  Brother division is the one they train with.

Hotels to check out:

Navy Lodge (no shuttle though, but close to base and reasonable), Residence Inn Waukegan, Springhill Suites, Courtyard Inn (all 3 of these have PIR shuttle and are close to SARGE's MeetandGreet the night before PIR...about 4-5 miles from the base).  Be sure to ask for the Navy graduation rate...some have said booking online is even cheaper than that.  So check out all options.  We stayed at Residence (pet friendly!) and used our AAA discount.

there's tons of hotels around base... If you're looking to stay close look in Waukegan its about 5 miles from base.
