WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Lots of albums of pictures from PIR on a fb page (that took me a while to find)!  There are several different pages with similar names, but the one I found the pix on was "U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command" (a Gov't Organization) with nearly 40,000 "likes."  Some good shots of nearly every division and some from overhead.  My own shots were either blurry or too bright!  Lots of the 900s....

Michelle, I stayed at the Navy Lodge this past weekend. I just had to give my son's last name to reserve a room. There are quite a few Sailors living there. One had her dog living with her. There were 2 Sailors in the room next to mine who are going to be there for the next month. I met them. I didn't ask why they were living there. The hotel staff are VERY helpful. Just tell them you have a military ID. It's not "on" base but VERY close.

So glad that all had a wonderful time at PIR and that your sailors are safely at A School now!  Blessings to each of them in their Navy future!

Yea that's what he told me, I thought it was pretty odd. Does anyone here know why the don't allow the Sailors to be at the Gateway?

Comment by Michelle on December 4, 2012 at 6:19pm

Thanks Bernadette! I was thinking about the gateway too but my husband was telling me that they don't really allow the Sailors to go there for some reason.

Comment by Michelle on December 4, 2012 at 6:07pm

Hello ladies! So my husbands A school is right in Great Lakes, so I was thinking of staying down there every other weekend or so to be with him until we move down there. I was wondering, would I still be able to stay at the Navy Lodge or is that just for people going to PIR, I have my own military ID if that helps

Just wanted to add my thanks to all the Veteran Moms for your sage wisdom and information during this first step of our "Sailors" navy careers.  You made this process so much better by providing the information we all needed.  Thanks again.
