Sorry, I am interrupting "the flow" with some "business" LOL
Calling Cards - If you did not send your SR with a Calling Card then please send one ASAP. They can purchase these at the NEX but it may be a couple of weeks before they are taken there (from their arrival) and they can't just go when they want too. I have heard a couple of stories of SR's on the phone with loved ones and they felt bad because others did not have Calling Cards when they finally got a call home! They usually cut their own call short to lend theirs to others!
Make sure it is activated (nowadays that is usually automatically done at the register) and has the MOST minutes you can find! So minutes get eaten up with the first use! If you can't find a large one buy a couple! Also, make a photocopy of it so you have the info and can reload it if need be.
I purchased a 600 or 700 one at Target for $20 on sale ($30 normal price).
The Box:
...of smelly clothes! LOL
If your SR (Seaman Recruit) took their cellphone with them it will be returned in the box...look in the pants pockets and the shoes if you don't see it outright. Often times it will be taken apart and stuffed into the toes of the shoes.
If you're wondering why one or both pants legs are rolled up...it's because they get their feet measured and they have no time to roll them back down (they're gonna take 'em off anyways!)
The box will arrive by Fed Ex about 5-7 days after your SR arrives at RTC (Recruit Training Command).
Some don't send a box home...they just wear the clothes on their back (donate or throw them away), bring only the necessary items that they can keep and use the payphone at RTC for their "I'm here!" call.
Hello Group!
I'm Late! Here is my standard Greeting...Welcome to you all!
Hello!
Welcome to your PIR Group!
My Sailor PIR’d in May of 2011. He is a Seabee Reservist. I have been an AF (Security Forces) Reservist wife for 28 + years…I know …not Navy…but I am familiar with military life! We have been through two Deployments…one right after 9/11 and most recently a year ago…our son enlisted while Hubby was in Iraq. This site was a Godsend and helped me get through not only our sons BC experience but my husbands and my separation for 6 months.
I am a “veteran” mom on the PIR groups mostly. I have been on them now for over a year and we have 7-8 PIR groups running at the same time.
I will check in here to see if I can answer any questions and lend support. There will be a few other veteran moms along to lend a hand and support you all through your PIR experience. Others drop in occasionally too…plus we are always looking for more to “join the ranks”. Things change in the military and we like to give out the most current info that we can so moms that have just gone through this help a lot.
I have a lot of PAGES with information to provide you along the way. I will post as the subjects come up! Please ask any and all questions…there are NO dumb ones Folks!
Hang on for the ride!
@country mom his contract was for 6 years; Advanced Electronics..
Yes, they should, knittycatt. Just may take a little longer.
If I mailed out letters to my boyfriend at BC, and he has moved to a different ship, will the letters ever get to him?
I really don't think they have a choice in how it is sent, but maybe they do. I bet it is because of where you live. Especially if fed-Ex doesn't deliver out there.
Yea, my son would never pay Fed Ex rate LOL. And we are in the middle of no where.
