50 miles wrwmom
Just remember when traveling anywhere, the time it takes to get from one place to another depends heavily on traffic and road conditions. That becomes even more true in cities like Chicago. I took us a little over an hour to get from Chicago to Great Lakes on our way to PIR. On our way home it had rained the night before and flooded the streets and it took us 4 very long hours to get from one end of Chicago to the other. And that was summer time. Always allow plenty of extra time just in case you need it :)
FTLW is there a mileage restriction on how far they can go from A school.for holiday .someone told my husband that....
Michelle – Holiday Stand down for GL "A" School is from December 21st to January 6th. (This may be so for all bases but not sure. Their CO has to approve it)
When your new Sailors get to their A schools...they will be briefed on the Holidays.
The new Sailors for this PIR will go on to their A schools first and then put a chit in for Leave at their A schools if they wish to take it. So no, they will not be able to return home with you after PIR.
I do not believe that TSC GL A school students will have extra time during the week. They only have on-base Liberty on Training Days and off-base Liberty on non-training days. I do not know if you are able to visit them on base during the training week. You would have to ask TSC GL Command.
I flew into O'Hare about noon on a Tuesday...it was about 30+ minutes to get to the Navy Lodge.
I then also drove out to Midway at midnight to see my son off. It took at least 50-60 minutes and that was with no traffic. It's just that it curves all the way around and then add traffic our...yuck.
I got a call from my SR. He said he could not talk, but needed to write down how to spell his sister's full name. Division 028 must be finalizing their final four list today.
So I'm hearing that Great Lakes A-school will be on shut down for two weeks, what exactly does that mean for the SRs?? would they be able to return home?? Or would we be able to spend time with them during the week if we stay longer after PIR?
MiMi: Just googlemapped directions between the two Chicago airports. Although the distance is about 26-30 miles, in current traffic, it is showing it to take from an hour to an 1.5 hours go get from one airport to the other.
Britt: Sent you the info in a friend request. Don't hit ACCEPT or the info goes away.
MiMi: Ohare is a bit closer....Midway is the furthest away. We have heard horror stories from ladies before who got caught in the traffic in Chicago and it took then way over an hour to get to GL from Midway. It just depends on whether you hit lots of traffic or not. We flew into OHare and it took us about 35-40 minutes to get to GL mid-afternoon on a Thurs.
