WELCOME TO PIR 11/20/2012

OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance. Please take the time
to read the OPSEC and Community Guidelines. A quick note here: Last Names of Sailors/Recruits are not allowed on this site. If it is in your username you will need to change your username. If yours is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended. First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Ladies, if anyone is planning on giving blood in the near future, please ask the blood bank if it is possible to make "a designated donation in honor of Brett Parks in Shands Hospital in Jacksonville FL."  This means that they would send a card to Brett saying you donated in his honor.  He doesn't get the blood, but will know that you were thinking of him when you donated much-needed blood that someone else can use.

For those who many not know who Brett is:

Brett is a sailor based in Jacksonville FL.

33, married, 16 mo old son, wife is 8 mos pregnant

Our families have been personal friends for over 60 yrs, starting with our parents' friendship.

He influenced my son to join the Navy (joined a yr before my son did).

Does personal training outside of the Navy--had just finished giving a training session.  Was trying to help a mugging victim crying out for help on Oct 17th and was shot in the abdomen by the mugger. Mugger (22 yrs old) was caught.

Has had 8-9 surgeries since then...pierced aorta (almost bled to death), lost most of colon, one kidney, and bottom part of right leg (on Monday).  He has been fighting for his life since Day 1 and is amazing his drs...he should not be alive.  Prayers are abundant, please continue...we are seeing the power of prayer in this situation daily.  It is an emotional up and down journey...victories mixed with setbacks, but all in all, he is beating the odds.

Here is the caringbridge link to see his progress, guestbook posts, and photos:

Thanks so much!

wrwmom:  Not likely that he will have to leave for A School on PIR Day...more likely the next day.  They are bussed to the airports in the wee hours to wait for flights.  Although sometimes the SRs are told they may leave PIR day, we have not seen that happen in forever.  Hopefully you will get all of PIR Day with your new sailor and have a Sat. airport visit with your sailor as well.

And, yes, I agree with FTLW.  If he is talking about moving over to GL A School, that happens after PIR. You then get daytime weekend liberty with them.

Wahhh! Whine, whine, whine - no call for this Div 023 Mom! Seriously, though, I'm depressed. I know FTLW said there could be lots of one-off reasons that a SR might not be able to make a call, but I still feel cheated.

That is great that so many had phone calls today !  It was so wonderful to hear from my son!  Although he did have to tell me to stop crying since I was at work !!  I am happy that things are going well in div 29 and he has found some friends that he feels he will be friends with for a very long time .  He is the Laundry PO ( just for the record, this is a kid who has never done laundry a day in his life!!  ) He has a friend in the laundry crew whose name is Phillip.  I guess his Mom Sherri is on Navy for Moms also and they think it is pretty funny !!  Sherri - if you see this send me a msg!!

I add my prayers for those affected by the storm, and especially for the ones who lost family members/friends in the storm.  Prayers that cleanup and rebuilding start right away, and that power is restored.  God Bless the many power company crews from many states on their way there to lend their support.

Saturday and Sunday are not counted in the counting of Training Days. Neither are Federal Holidays. FH are treated like Sundays.
