I have been feeling nostalgic all week. Nov. 2 was my daughter's birthday...the second birthday we have missed since she has been in the Navy. At least this year she is not in Boot Camp!

I too have missed all the ladies (and gents) from our group...I hope you all and your sailors are doing well.

Hi old friends of PIR 11/05/10 !! Is it just me or is anyone feeling very nostalgic about the upcoming anniversary?? I think the former "recruits" are... I've noticed several of our sailors making contact via FB and my son says he's touched base with quite a few he hasn't heard from in awhile this week. I'm looking at the pictures and reliving the crazy range of emotions that occurred over that ride thru RTC...Battlestations...PIR...the weekend that followed... WOW. I've heard of so many life-changing events over the course of the year...weddings, babies, deployments..separations...On this site is one of the few places we can all really find others who truly understand what loving a sailor requires and involves...the good and the bad. I miss you all and the days of the constant chatter in this group :)  I'm glad we have all moved on but as is too common in life we don't appreciate fully what we have until it's no more...to all my Navy family: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!! (and yes, I was shouting!) Lol !

Hi everyone...can't believe it's been over a year...update on my girl....she spent majority last year in Pcola....lot of hold time...made it all the way thru rescue swimmer school with one rollback until her final...messed up a significant step on a multi situational test, and was subsequently dropped from the AIRR program last May...she regrouped, and reclassified to a Dry Aircrew spot(AWF-flight engineer on a P3) just grad Aviation Electronics A school....detached from Pcola yesterday for San Diego for that two week camping trip school...then onto JAXfor final flight engineer C school....will finish hopefully mid Nov 2012...
She is so excited to be moving on in her rate...also, just got engaged today...her fella is also Navy, finishing up his last school in Cali...

Hello fellow 11/5 alumn.  Hard to believe it has been a yr since most of of started this journey.  My son left on 9/14 for bootcamp. then on to Groton after graduation for sub school.  Since his sub is based in Groton he is still there.  He loves it there.  He got married in Apr and his new bride moved to Groton in July.  He is now out on his boat.  We get emails and when in port phone calls.  Just talked to him yesterday, he called to tell us he got his first tatoo.  All of his buddies tell him:  "you are one of us now".  lol   Should be back in Groton sometime before the holidays.  Dont know yet if they will get to come home at Christmas but we are hoping.  Glad to read updates on your sailors.  keep up with some of you on FB..

Hi Everyone.  I felt the need to stop by here today to see how things are going.  sounds like those who have posted have had an exciting ride over the last year.  I can't believe we are approaching a year.  My son left for bootcamp last Sept. 13, Div. 363.  He is still in Charleston, SC attending Nuke school and will finish his second of 3 schools on Oct. 7.  Talk about stress, ups and downs, highs and lows.  Those guys and gals there are just so sick of 40-70 hours a week of classroom and studying and test after test after test.  They just want to get out on the ships and subs and get going.  After this school, he could be on grad. hold for 8 months or more before his last school will start, so still quite a while to go.   In the meantime, he fell down some stairs on base back in March and FINALLY, after months of physical therapy, they are realizing that he most likely severed a tendon or three.  He had an MRI and will go see an orthopedic doctor soon.  could also mean ankle surgery.  UGH.  But, grad hold will be a good time to do this since it will be so long.  And of course now we are watching the hurricane and waiting to see what path it will take and if they have to evacuate.  Their base is in a swamp land area (but it is a nice area), not too close to the ocean to be worried about ocean swells, but they have lots of trees with shallow root systems so there could be lots of flying debris, and maybe a flying alligator or two.  

Hope everyone is well and that your sailors are happy and healthy and enjoying their experiences.

A little update on C. He stayed in GL for quite a while for Pre-BUD/S. A few injuries caused class roll backs but he has since moved on to BUD/S and is waiting to begin training down there. The pressure is on, and he's definitely feeling it, but I'm very excited for him. He proposed last night on the 4th of July. Now we just wait and see what happens with everything from here. A very long journey awaits us, and I know it will be the hardest thing he's ever done. Just keeping up hope that no injuries get in his way from living his dream.

might not be as easy as he expects...life goes on, things change..not sure they expect that. What a ride:) And it's really just starting! Love and prayers to all!

Glad to see some updates here! As we approach a year since our Navy adventure began...I miss you guys!! My sailor comes home in 2 weeks!!! Finishing FMTB in Lejeune and looking forward to settling in with his reserve unit in St Lou. I can hardly wait but am getting anxious about what comes next...I know they did'nt put all this effort into him to just let him be a weekend warrior... Time will tell.. Also a little worried that his transition to civy life again

Seems like forever since we were all on here worrying about battle stations and graduation! It was nice to see Lynn's pink flower on this page...good memories.

 

Update on Brittany:

She went to A and C school in Dam Neck, VA.  She graduated C school on April 29th and was able to come home and visit us for almost 2 weeks before heading off to Hawaii for sea duty. So far, she is loving her new assignment, but is really looking forward to getting her car so she can explore the Island.

I'm officially the mom of a US Navy Corpsman!!! The entire class passed test 12 yesterday and will begin 2weeks of clinicals Monday and graduate March 15. They all head to Camp Lejeune the following day to "hurry up & wait" for FMTB with the Marines in May. Geesh...our 8week boot camp sure is taking a loooong time! Reality...military style! He will ultimately be home the end of July...11 months after the Cardinal Company left St Louis. Long haul for a Reserve gig! Fortunately, besides a little homesickness once in a while...my Sailor is LOVING it! In fact...he's doing some recruiting with his little bro...BIG SIGH....hope everyone is well! Sure miss all our bc chats :)
