Fireman is just a group of rates, same as a Seaman, all are a E-3. His rank will be red:)

As for the choices for the first duty station this has been my experience and what I have heard from others. Whoever finishes first in the class gets the first pick of what is available. So it does depend on if the place they really want is one on the available list. Second in the a school class gets second pick and so on. And believe me their dream list does change. My sailor wanted to go to Japan but after bootcamp she got homesick and wanted to be as close to home as possible. She got 2nd pick and is now at Virginia Beach lol, 7 hours from home :-)

Traya, being a grad and go to great lakes is a good thing. After they move their stuff over to the other base (takes about 5 hours) they get liberty for the weekend and almost always get to stay with their family at night as well. So it is a very good thing. :-)

My son's fiancee received a letter from my son. He is going in subs. And so far has passed all the special requirements. But in his letter he told herthat he a fireman. Not sure exactly how he worded it or what he meant. Any ideas?

Thank you Lynne, I to am a praying person, I pray for all of our recruits, and families. Will be checking the Special Prayer Requests for specific things and needs I can pray for... God Bless

As we move towards the end of boot camp it seems there are some injuries, some recruits who are just not quite passing their PFA's, others who feel down and as if they are unsure if they can make it, and families who have special needs as well. It is hard often to keep those needs straight, well at least for me. As a praying person, I want to pray for each and every one of you who has special prayer requests and I know that desire is shared by other family members on this site. So if you have a prayer request...please take a moment and put it in the new discussion forum "Special Prayer Requests" and you can be assured that people like me will be reading it everyday and praying over your needs. You don't have to be specific if you don't want...just pray for my family or for my recruit...God knows your needs and thats all thats important!

Dianne, I heard that too...that those with the highest scores pick first and it moves on down the list...good incentive to study....lol

Traya...all is not lost...yes you can be grad and go to GL...usually it means that directly after PIR they have to move to their A-school BUT then they are usually given the same kind of liberty during the weekend....so don't panic..:)
