I thought it was a great warning from my friend for folks to pass on to their soon to be sailors...it is so tempting to go for that credit application, spend that money, and soon there is trouble and it can follow them for a lifetime...I can't tell you the number of young couples I work with that find themselves and their marriage in a world of hurt because of situations like this....

Lynne: My son did the same thing in a jewelry store and got a card mailed here! I asked why he would sign up for something like that, and he said, "Well, my buddy and I were there and this girl trying to get us to sign up was hot." Oh boy....he got quite a lecture...
Our sailors need to beware....like you said....that there are those out to benefit from them!

Oh my goodness, yes, my husband and I have gotten a bunch of strange phone calls since our son left. Often times they aren't english speaking.

Tiffany...I asked my cousin who is retired Navy...he was head of the Pensacola Base so he kind of is knowledgeable...lol...he said "NO" with a capital "N"...your then sailor could get in much trouble and would not be the way to start out his Navy career...it would follow him forever...so take a little time plan a wedding for when he has more time at "A" school, let him get there, get settled in, and learn what his schedule is going to be. My understanding is they really go through three levels of "liberty" (that is my terminology and could be wrong)....at first they will have almost zero priveleges during orientation or indoctrination...then they may have short periods of liberty duirng phase 2 and during phase 3 they may have longer period of liberty, maybe even an overnight which...lol...might be more conducive to getting married...or when he qualifies for leave he can request leave to get married. Unfortunately he is also married to the Navy right now so has to get permission from them to do anything....it is much like being 12 again...lol!

What a neat idea mom...
Hey folks I got this note from another mom today regarding her sailor...while it speaks to Pensacola I think it is important information that should be passed on to all our recruits

Tell All your Sailors to BE CAREFUL!!!! Mine was at a mall (in Pensacola, FL), a couple stopped them & asked for their military IDs.....they wrote down some info & gave it back. Today we got a credit card in the mail from a Jewelry store. He is pretty sure that is where it came from. There is NO reason they should have to show their Military ID at the mall unless they are being given a discount. BEWARE!!!

I try to send my son something every day (I think I've missed a few). But my life is boring, so, I bring paper whenever we are getting together with friends who know my son (football tailgating yesterday and partnership trip reunion at church today). I have people write him a little note and he gets a big communal letter. And that is what I put in the mail that day.

They MAY have "liberty" for Thanksgiving as compared to leave. Liberty means that they have to stay within 50 (?) miles of base. A friend whose son is in A School now said her son gets to come home for Christmas, but not Thanksgiving.
So it is possible that they can't come home for Thanksgiving, but maybe a few days for Christmas??? They should find out about that when in indoc after arriving at the base.
