How exciting that the conversation is shifting toward A school now...we seem to be moving forward. Only 26 more days!

Thanks for the info. Yes, our hotel has wifi and we'll have our laptop. Not sure he'll want his old phone, he may want to get new everything.

Tiffany: There are rules about marrying on PIR weekend. Usually, you are not allowed to. You would have to get prior approval from the "powers that be" there and that is usually only granted if there are unusual circumstances (one couple got permission because she has a severe kidney disease). You CAN get married during A School, but you have to be aware of the marriage license rules of that area...and make sure your new sailor will still be in A School there if there is a waiting period before getting married. As far as living with him after you are married, you would have to look into that because I don't know anything about Navy married housing, etc.

does anyone know what would happen if we get married on PIR weekend??

Laura: I would bring them for him to use whlie he is on liberty if he wants to do that. Most enjoy using their phone and laptop, assuming your hotel has WiFi. Unless he doesn't want them? My son was GradNGo to another city and didn't want his....wanted to spend time with us since we just had a few hours. So I mailed his cell later (he did without his laptop until he was stationed).

O okay does anyone know if their spouse can still move with him when he is on hold??
Comment by Laura (Ship 7 Div 355 PIR 11/5) on October 9, 2010 at 6:33pm
Makes sense about usage, just wondered whether we should bring it. Hopefully, he will let us know what he wants us to bring. No he's not married, he's only 19.

Tiffany, they cannot come home when on hold. If they were going to get "liberty" between bc and A School, they know this before the end of bc. But I don't think that happens often.

Laura, one of my N4M friends said that once they are on GL base (totally off of RTC base), they can have the cells and laptops. But there are strict rules about cell use. They are not to have their phones during indoc or class.
