Good Afternoon Group!

Does anyone have a SR who is a Nuke? My son is Nuke, just wondering if they may be sent to their A school at the same time?

Thanks ..... Josie

Lynne... Wish you would be able to spend more time with him. But in the same hand you have to be excited in how he is feeling like a sailor. That's awesome. Can you go to the airport with him at leasst to see him off?

Sunny...the frequency of phone calls depends on how well they are doing as a division, whether they earn those calls, and the kindness of the RDCs so their really is no typical...sorry

ooh.. i like the chat box idea.. im sure he wouldn't mind at all sharing his experience. He is constantly asking if I've heard how his division is doing, so that would be a good way for him to keep tabs on 355 as well!

Got a letter today which was awesome,I wasn't expecting it! Bad news though he doesn't get any leave until after A school, what the heck I don't understand, that's another 14 weeks! I guess I'm gonna be spending a lot of weekends in Chicago. Man I hate the cold. Does anyone know how they decide who gets holiday leave?

In most cases if they ask you to send something it is because they have been told they can have it sent to them. Our daughter asked for a notebook/tablet, envelopes, shampoo, a phone card, and stamps. We sent these things to her in a priority envelope. Later she asked for make-up, hairdryer and hair straightener (she was in performing division) we sent those in a flat rate priority box. Her RDC or chief had told them they could have these items. They even let her make a phone call to ask for them to be sent. They are there, they know the rules, and believe me they don't want to get in trouble. I think they would not ask for something they have not been told they can have. Especially in the last 3 weeks of boot camp.

Just a quick note to all...I am getting lots of email from you all which I love and I try to respond as quick as possible but I've noticed a couple of similarities so I thought I don my more professional hat and address them. Many moms have expressed feeling sad or overwhelmed about the content of some of their letters. Their recruits describe being tired, sick, overwhelmed, pressured, or imprisoned. Remember your recruits have probably no one to vent to at boot camp and when things are tough....the tough still turn to mom. That is simply a fact of life. Our recruits are becoming adults but when faced with those milestones they seek encouragement and reassurance. What they are being met with at bootcamp is simply "get on with it". So, after a long week of going, going, going, they sit down to rest and write and they vent. Now for girlfriends and wives this is not necessarily the case because men being men or boys being boys will always try to be the tough guy for "the love of their life". So moms if you are hearing the sadness, the frustration, and even perhaps the depression just recognize that it is because they need someone to tell how they feel in that moment and who have they always come to when they skinned that knee, when someone "picked" on them, when they had trouble with friends...quite simply it was mom.

In their exhaustion they are overwhelmed but everyday they are making strides towards acheiving a goal, working towards becoming an adult and in the next few weeks they will begin to see their hard work and determination really make a difference. They will begin to see than can, rather than assume they can't. They will stand with their backs a little straighter, focused on their goal. Their divisions will come together and they will begin to show pride in what they do. I'll in the next two weeks there will be a change in those letters and that the very things they feared and hated will be the things they are most proud of accomplishing.

So write back, encourage them, and hold on to the knowledge that they love and trust you so much that they are willing to share the innermost feelings with you knowing that you will treat them care and keep on encouraging them and cheeering them to victory!!

Got letters yesterday - sounds like things are really coming together. Light at the end of the tunnel. I have sent 2 questionaires and gotten one back, his letter yesterday asked for another one...said they were "interesting". LOL. Can NOT wait to see him!
