Alrighty girls I am a single mom with an only child...so if you ever see me doing one iota of what you describe...you just yank me right up by my fingertips and tie my toes to the ceiling fan and set it on high until I get the point. I want to be the kind of mother-in-law like Fireman's mom and others who seem to know how to make the DIL feel a part of the family. All I can say to each of you is continue to act with grace. and Ashley you don't have to thankk me...I am so glad you are here...you have found your extended Navy family...hang in there!!

Okay, Son has his phone now. JUST NO RECEPTION in his room. Hope that he has it on base somewhere. Oh well, at least there is SKYPE.

My dad just called and i was telling him how my son was requesting a religious medallion for Christmas. He said he was actually going to ask my son if he would like my dad's St. Christopher that he had when he was in bootcamp 55 years ago. I think that will be very special for him.

Ashley - I feel for you with the inlaws. I've had that same sort of thing, for who knows what reason, and I've been married almost 25 years. It's just my mother in law. i think she just didn't like the fact that my husband is her only child and she always doted on him his whole life, then I came along and suddenly he was no longer there for her to dote on. It's sad that things have to be that way, especially for her because she has missed out on so much of our lives and our children's lives, but you will find a way to focus on your family with your husband and your daughter, and any future children, and it will get easier. You are doing well and I know you have what it takes to make it.

Ashley---my daughter and her 2 girls recently moved out of our house to a place of their own, we helped out as much as we could, what I couldn't part with we hit up the Goodwill store the Salvation Army and the Catholic church in our town has a thrift store. We found all kinds of good stuff. An ironing board for 2 dollars, curtains for 50cents, assortment of dishes and a childs table and chairs. We had tons of fun shopping and setting up house, hope you do too!!!!

Lynne- Thank you =] I'm in the same boat as Monica with the inlaws and not being supportive and pretty much hating me for no apparent reason=/... but my husband and i have figued out that we are in this together and doing this for us as a couple and as parents of our little girl, bc we were living with my parents and on unemployment and joining seemed to be the answer, i get the questiong from my husband all the time" Was this the right decision, I hope I didn't just ruin my family... i reassure him that we will never leave and that we are in this together which does help him =] And yes change is very difficult, and stressful but i'm trying my hardest and giving this new life style a 100% effort and will stick by my husband bc I know this is something he will enjoy once all this aschool and intense atmosphere is over. Thank you for letting me join this group even while i wasn't talking i was reading everyones concerns and responses and it has been very helpful to know everyone is in the same situation as we are so it's releaving!

Mimi- Thank you! I am actually looking that up as we speak i'm trying to decide if i want to run this by my husband or suprise him=] and thank you we will be hopefully moving in by thursday ( I had an issue with the electric company! They have not been helpful at all and i have been hitting road block after road block, so hopefully this will all get better =] I have high hopes

Yeah my husband has been doing briefings and doing the "military work" i have been hearing alot from my husband about how they dont really get told what they have to do? Is he experienxing the same thing? I think he's just not used to his entire day planned out and someone constantly there to yell and tell them what to do. I hope he does well on the PFA=] and the uniform inspects! He's very lucky to have a mom that's supportive! My husbands mother is beyond against him joining and has blamed me for letting him make this decision, which is why we really have grown apart from his family.(there's much more behind that not just joining...) It's just really nice reading about all the moms who support their sons/and daughters!
We try to be insync trust me its not that easy sometimes but we try as hard as we can=]

Ashley---we got our son a St Christpoher medal, he is that patron st of travelers. St Christopher is on one side and the Navy emblem is one the other. We are Lutheran, our pastor doesn't doing blessings for this type of thing, but my father is Catholic he took it to the priest, asked him to bless it for his grandson, so he did. Our son didn't want to take it until it was blessed. We got it at catholicshopper.com-----------Good luck at your new home

Ashley - their classes at Nuke school, for the Machinist Mates, start next Monday, so he hasn't really gotten into the real classroom stuff yet. I know that yesterday they ran, had some briefings and such and today more info. on investment plans, etc. Tomorrow they have a PFA and they have 3 uniform inspections this week, among other things. He was off at 3:00 today, so enjoyed a shorter day.
It will get very intense and I know there will be many days of him venting, and that is fine. I'm here for him.
Sounds like you and your husband are insync and that as long as you are both understanding and open things will go well for you. Glad you joined us.
