Hi all! Not been on since PIR so trying to catch up...since we've been home---started new job and hubby had final surgery (crossed fingers). I'm a little late but...had a wonderful weekend with the Sailor! He's in GL for corpsman school so we got him late Friday nite and didn't return him until Sunday morning. We stayed at the Navy Gateway Inn on the main base which was awesome...like a little apartment complex that looks out on the lake. It was perfect as hubby got to stay in nice and cozy while the rest of us took the train into Chicago and saw some sights. I'm still overwhelmed by the whole ceremony and experience. Our son had changed in some ways but behind closed doors in the room he was the same old kid!! For those who remember his request for "normal" underwear...the tidy whiteys were the first thing he disposed of! LOL
I saw some posts asking for info on the corpsman A-school...I've been getting texts daily and phonecalls. He said they are in indoc(?) days until school starts the 22nd. They are in class right now from 0800-1600...then back to quarters to wait for liberty call...then they are basically free until 2145, I think. They walk to the hospital for meals...about half mile or so. The rooms are like dorm rooms with 2 guys to a room and 4 to a bathroom. They are small but comfy...microwave and dorm size fridge. Not totally sure but I believe stand down for the holidays is 12/16 or 17 until 1/2 or 3. Most of the corpmen are staying thru Thanksgiving in order to have longer at Christmas...so they wont' be alone!! The train station is literally right across from their quarters...closer than chow! We rode and the trip to downtown Chicago took about an hour..not bad at all...roundtrip for $7 and in uniform or with ID it was cheaper. I saw the school building and hospital where they will have class and train. The hospital is where they would take a sailor that needed care...fairly large! The class building was impressive and very near the quarters. The are quite a ways from the NEX but they must be getting there easily because there are several charges recently on his bank account! LOL There is a "hang out" called the Loft...bowling alley and movie theatre that only costs $2 and often shows free movies...Military movies all day for Veteran's Day and many attended as they had the whole day off!!! There is no internet service in the quarters unless you purchase a wifi plan...I guess they can do that at the NEX for $60/month...we are shopping around. They can access free wifi at the Loft so I guess that's where many hang out at in the evening...it's open to all enlisted.
Hope this is helpful...and sorry if I repeated anything anyone else has posted :)
Hope all is well with everyone!

just sayin' is all but I seem to be having a little problem adjusting to my new group, it doesn't feel the same as this one, probably because we were all in the same boat (pun intended) at the same time and my new boat has various stages of comings and goings. I feel adrift :( son arrived at p'cola but that's all I really know

Good morning Navy Moms. Haven't been here for a few days. Still traveling to make it home (stopped in Reno for two days to make a deposit). Be home today. Got a call from Alex Wed nite he's already in Conn. He made it to his school before we made it home! He said he'll call sometime today with his address so I can send his laptop, phone, and other things. He just sounds so grown up. I miss him, but it was great to hear from him!!
