N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Sailors will be in uniform for all of PIR Day and when flying out.  Those staying in A School will also need to be in uniform throughout the weekend up there but don't have to wear their "formal" uniform during the weekend...after PIR Day.  Once they "phase up" in A School, they are allowed to wear some "civies."  Takes a few weeks so you can bring some up with you to give to your new sailors for that time.  For those who want to bring up some for their "flying out" sailors, personal items including these will need to be handed off to them at the airport.  Those in A School can return from Liberty to A School base with them.

We don't advise families to bring an extra SUITCASE of clothes/personal items for their sailors to take on the plane.  They will be toting their seabags, garment bags (both checked luggage) and Navy backpacks.  So it is best for them to take what they can fit into this luggage and you can ship/mail the rest to them at A School.....Or better yet, if your sailor is coming home for Christmas from A School....he/she can take these items back with them then.  That would probably be the best plan for this group.

Nicksmom:  We LOVE all of our military, including our SOLDIERS, but those graduating will be SAILORS!  :-)  Congrats to all of them!

Navymom65:   I have to agree with ellen on the last name advice.  First names are fine or even initials on the door posters.  You never can be too careful in these times....and need to always be mindful of OPSEC.

Comment by ellen0502 on December 9, 2015 at 5:19pm

You can put your Sailors last name on the poster if you wish, but I would recommend you don't. Last names can give an "outsider" just enough information.
