N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

I need some prayer warriors.... My daughter Kelsey is in Div 905 and we found out last night that her Aunt was found dead in her home. Kelsey was very close to her. I want to be able to tell her myself but don't know how to do so. The American Red cross will not even talk to me but I did reach the Chaplain line and they said they were going to request Sailor to call home.... Please pray she is so far away and I know she is gonna take this hard. I know she is not allowed home and I understand that ... I just want to tell her myself and be able to comfort her for a minute on the phone?? Any Suggestions

Pulliam1991,

Maybe your SR daughter ended up with a very responsible recruit petty officer position and is really busy.  Now they are going into intense training, so letters will be the main source of communication~~  ((HUGS))

Thanks KarenLynn and Kya97 for updates. I guess the saying "no news is good news is true". I certainly hope that's the case. It's very hard for them to be gone and not here anything. I have not received any letters other than the original with address and PIR date and the Thanksgiving letter. Therefore, I don't know if she has gotten letters or sent any letters. I have been looking forward to getting phone calls, bit none since 11/1/15.

Hi moms, I have been away for a while and have not had a chance to follow all the discussions.  I just want to say, realtreegirl, that I will be praying for you and your son for a swift recovery.  Even though I do not know you, please receive a hug from me, as I think we can all relate to the disappointment something like that brings.

ALso, I saw something about "challenge coins".  I am sure the explanation is buried somewhere in the messages, but I cannot find it...  Could someone please explain what that is and what is "challenging" about them?

On another note, we heard from our son saturday and he says he really enjoys marching.  In one of the letters he told us the cadence they march to... very interesting (one is funny).

He did not pass his second fitness test :-(  I tried to be positive on the phone, but he said that out of 76 in his division, only 17 did not pass... should I worry (well, I am worrying already)

One last question for Catholics out there:  When he called, he told us that he is not sure the priest is an ordained  priest.  I asked him whether he consecrated the Host in Mass, and he said yes.  So he must be ordained, but our son says that the things he says are very "un-priestly" (???)... thoughts?  Not that it is bothering him too much, he just mentioned it off hand.

Have a wonderful week!  So proud of all our brave children!

Pulliam1991 - my son is in the same division. His girlfriend got a letter this week. We got a phone call on 11/1 and letters last week. He says they are really busy, but he is enjoying himself. I figure the next time I talk with him it will be Thanksgiving and then 2 weeks later at PIR. This is so hard!! I know it is good for them to be immersed in the Navy, but I don't like it. I hope you hear from her soon. They keep saying no news is good news.

Pulliam1991, we think there was a slight delay with some of the Divisions receiving mail because of the requirement of getting someone mail handler trained. Our daughter sent a letter postmarked 9 Nov stating she did not get any mail from us yet and we've mailed several cards and letters to her since Oct 30th. Shouldn't take two weeks for mail to reach ILL from TN!
