~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Sorry, post below is for 8isenuff, not CatMom! :-)
CatMom509: JCPenny studio is not too far away. Prices are usually pretty reasonable:
I honestly don't know what I would have done the past 8 weeks without this group!! I went and bought my waterproof (well tear proof) mascara that someone here suggested, gate pass printed, rsvp'd for Sarge's on Thursday night, We are headed out Monday morning for the 1300 mile drive!! I can't wait to give that kid a great big hug!!! I can't wait to meet as many of you as I can!! It has been a long haul, lots of worries, lots of tears, the finish line is in sight!! Then off for the next journey.....
ellen0502, Thank you. I was trying to imagine my mother, with her cane, and my 3 youngest girls driving onto the base and navigating all of the stuff on PIR day. Funny picture. :-) Well, maybe not to my mom... ;-)
CatMom509, I know I read on your PIR tips about photo ops and other suggestions. Do you or anyone else have any ideas on where else to take your Sailor for a really nice photo? I would love to have the official photo of my SRs, but I find the price tag a bit...prohibitive...esp x2. Also, when I am sure both the "smiling" and "not smiling" pictures will have exactly the same expression. lol
Jackiemons,
Have you joined the A school group in Damsneck, VA? The moms there may have more info for you, especially about when their Sailors actualy flew out of Great Lakes. The group may be under her rating (job) name. After arrival at A school, usually they are just getting processed and having various duties at their barracks before they "class up" and are going through their real training. Waiting a couple of months is normal, but they can class up sooner. My IT Sailor daughter classed up only 2 weeks after arriving in Pensacola. It just depends how many Sailors in a particular rating (job) arrive to be trained.
Don't worry. The Navy has plenty for them to do with signing up for community actiivites and doing things around the base.
Oh Jackiemons - it's ok - I feel the same way, I'm just biting my tongue. And then everytime I get a letter from my SR that he isn't getting my mail, I'm working to not be frustrated. I write him with questions I NEED him to answer, get a letter from him and my questions aren't answered. UGH! It dawned on me this morning I will get the "I'm a sailor" call while I'm on the plane to PIR - which means I will miss the call - meaning I won't get those questions answered if he doesn't call between now and then. UGH! Trying so hard to not stress!
Hello All!
"Let your eyes look straight ahead,
fix your gaze directly before you.
Make level paths for your feet and
take only ways that are firm."
Proverbs 4:25-26
It shouldn't matter which name is on the parking pass and who is in the car. If they would happen to check at the gate the names will still be on their list. People also "car pool" to the RTC, so it shouldn't be a problem.
Dragonfly - you are welcome!
8isenuff - Just to be on the safe side, I would match the people to the parking pass. Or take the shuttle and then you won't have to worry about the parking pass.
I am I the only mother out here that doesn't know what she's doing after PIR? I know her A school is to be in Damneck VA. Other than that I know nothing except what I've read. Is anyone elses SR going to be IS in VA? Have you been told anything? Daughter said that she talked to another SR going to VA and they were told it may be Feb before class has enough to start. I've been trying to be cool, calm and collected, but today I feel the need to know. LOL the Navy doesn't really care that this momma needs to know, but you know they know what they are doing with her. Thanks in advance.
