This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

IF this is off of the end of month LES the mid month is probably the amount of net pay he had deposited in his checking account on the 15th.

I have few questions about tthe deductions on my son's second pay statement.  Does anyone understand the deductions below:

1. MGIB, $100
2. Meal Deduction, $159.56
3. Mid-Month-pay, $549.59
Thanks,
Michelle

I found out about the 14 weeks of boot camp from my son's room mate.  The "combat" training supposedly is just in case of this whole Korea thing going on overseas.

I read where this "rumor" arises every so often, but meagan5220 is correct, RTC confirmed that it was not true.

I have heard of them increasing the boot camp but also I think it was mentioned on the FB page and RTC said no that they weren't ? I might be imagining things but I think thats what RTC said. It was awhile back so I cannot be for sure.

I have not heard anything about increasing boot camp to 14 weeks either. I am not sure what the "combat training" would be either.   For the small percentage of sailors (fewer than 15,000) who are sent to Afghanistan or Iraq as "individual augmentees" they do receive infantry training, but it is a separate school not boot camp.

himmiemom:  increasing navy boot camp to 14 weeks???

Interesting, you raised my interest, went looking, found nothing.

I did read several months ago that all Navy Medics were adding the 14 week Marine corps training to their training regime so they would all be qualified to be combat medics, but that does not sound like the same thing.

WOW!!! It will be a month already tomorrow??? Hard to believe how fast this last month has gone.

I got great news from my son tonight.  He classes up 3/14!!!! YEAH!!!! Finally.  He has been starting to get a little restless and more than ready to get going.

Bad storm in Pensacola yesterday.  Black clouds and funnel clouds hanging overhead.  He said he got stuck in the building he was working in for 7 hrs!!!!  At least he was safe.

Time sure flies!!!  Yes, I look back to how stressed I was, especially during the first half of BC, and now I laugh at myself!  I miss my boy a lot and even though he can communicate with me freely now, well there isn't a whole lot of time for that.  So I have to have patience and accept this new Navy life.

BB = I miss the letters too.  It was great to receive them and I wish they still wrote home at least once per week.  Even an email would be great!  haha   I actually miss writing him too, even though it was difficult to keep having conversations with a piece of paper.  I'll cherish the memories of BC forever!!
