This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Congrats for those who have received letters so far. No letters for me today.  I'm starting to get down. I keep telling myself that maybe the next day I will get one or maybe he just can't write or maybe its just the holidays.  I'm just not in a really good place right now.  I'm still writing him letters though and trying to keep how I'm feeling out of them and trying to keep them very encouraging. I just want him to know that someone from home loves him so very much and knows that he can do it.  I just miss him so much. Maybe I'll get a phone call this weekend. I hope everyone has a happy and safe new year!

I got my first few letters (seven!) from Tim today and I wanted to share how he is doing…

He got the Master at Arms position which is a very good thing! Says it comes with a little bit more freedom and he does not have to clean, just has to make sure the other recruits do what they are suppose to….
Said the Chief told the other guys in his DIV that if Tim gives an
order it may as well come from him [the chief] and they better listen!
He is so excited about that! Says he has made a good impression on the
RDC’s (drill instructors) Says they like his "military bearings" (his dad is ret. Navy and he [Tim] worked in the prison system for 4 years. he had to do the police academy so he is doing ok with this.... its a bit tougher though) .

He says there are already some that are ready to quit, and at this point it was still only processing week….he said there alot of younger guys (My husband is 29 so hes much older then most) that just keep talking all the time and/or forgetting stuff
therefore causing them to all have extra PT, then it causes them all to
complain…. which gives them even more PT. (yeah he’s a bit frustrated)

He talks about how much he misses me, and cant wait for this to be over, but he tries not to think too much about it so not to lose focus. He went to the SDA (seventh day adventist) church program, and enjoyed it, said it helped with
the sad feelings.

Apparently they were suppose to get a call home on Christmas but never did. Said someone much have messed up and caused them to lose it…he also has not gotten any of my letters yet, because he kept telling me to
write…. BUT I have been writing…

but it might take a bit longer for him to get his letters…. the formal letter from the Navy with his address had that he was SHIP 09 DIV 074 but his envelopes and in his letters he tells me he is DIV
073…. so hopefully they can track him down and get him all his letters!

Overall he is doing good…. feeling a bit sad, and very frustrated with the young guys that are not focused and he misses me tremendously….

i made reservation at the navy lodge ...told me that i could stay as a guest under my sons name.
Comment by Lexsmom on December 31, 2010 at 10:33pm
sailorgirl- You can stay at the Navy Lodge. Just make your reservation and tell them your SRs Ship and Division #. Then when he comes to the lodge with you he can show ID. It's really simple.

Sorry for this long post...

BB. He will be going to A school in Meridian MS. Is anyone else going to MS for A school????

I am just hoping and praying he is not G & G. He is going to be a SK or Ship Serviceman..I think that is the name anyway....Nothing to glamorous. He did need to have excellent credit due to dealing with the ships budget and money??? not sure exactly what his title will be. He wanted to be an Electrician working with SB, but he is color blind in shades of green and red...found that out at MEPS and because of that he didn't qualify for the Sea Bee's.  He had decided to forget the Navy and go to Community College...but since he would go in at E3 due to his ROTC...his words were ...sounds like a decent job, and I can get an accounting degree pretty quickly after 4 years in the Navy...so he decided to sign up for the DEP in April. Nice and safe job.

(I hope) I am hoping the worst of it is over by now for him. I know the holiday's probably got him missing me and home....I tend to spoil both of my kids...I sent a letter on Monday that had pictures of what Santa brought him...he got a new I pod Nano and some new "Holister" apparel (although I'm not sure when he will get to wear it) Some cash.Best Buy gift card, I pod gift card and I found an old fashioned "battleship" game (not electronic like we played) and some of his fav's Silly puddy, Air Heads and Sour Patch Kids! That should cheer him up. I hope he gets it soon....mailed it out on Monday.

His letter was dated 12/23/10...Thanks for the support :)

Has anyone from Ship 9 Division 71 received a letter yet?  I have been patiently waiting but getting very frustrated.  I do enjoy hearing about the SR in BC, but I really would like to hear from mine.  Thanks to everyone that is passing along info, it might be all I get.

Oh battlebuddy, I am so sad for you! I hope that your next letters are better and that he is happier. Nothing worse than not being able yo fix everything, trust me I know that feeling all to well as I am a fixer and want everyone to be happy! I hope that he was able to choose a job that has some interest in and then A school will be much better! Hang in there, we can do this we are Navy Moms, and in my book there is no higher rank.

Just a thought I was reading on another group about what to write to you SR, she was finding inspirational quotes from Navy officers, something to lift spirits and to let them know they can do this!!!
