This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Britt...have you or his parents gotten the box yet...that will come first.  About a week to ten days after the box, the form letter will arrive and then about a week after that you should get your first letter.  This communication black out of the first three weeks is tough.  However you should be writing and sending letters, so when your recruit gets that first mail call....they get a whole bunch of mail.  Be sure to read the rules of engagement for communicating with your recruit in the discussion forum above and I have added a questionaire you can send to your recruit that will clarify what their RDCs view as acceptable in terms of mail.  LOL  PS  Happy Anniversary!!

I always like to remind everyone when the letters do start coming that the recruits will often talk about the "trouble-makers" in the division and as moms and family members we have this vision of young men or women who just can't follow the rules.  While this is somewhat true...it is important to put it in perspective.  As moms we have tried to "catch" our children doing something right and now the RDCs are trying to catch our "recruits" doing something wrong.  These horrible, terrible "criminal acts" resulting in the division getting  a beating may involve failure to use correct military bearing or not standing up straight, talking when it isn't allowed which is most of the day until taps...lol, shifting their eyes from right to left instead of staring straight ahead, leaning against the bulhead.  Yes, its true, my own son violated this particular rule and being the concerned mother that I was, and leader of my PIR group, I was horrified to learn my son had gotten the division in trouble for leaning against the bulkhead.  I said, "son why would you do such a thing?"  He said, "Mom, I was tired, and leaned against the wall, the bulkhead is a wall, capice.!  lol."  It certainly put things into perspective.  The moral of the story is that almost everyone gets into trouble at boot camp, yep even YOUR child is probably a troublemaker at some point, so its all good and don't panic, if the offense is really great...they won't be writing home about it....they will be separated.

I feel like a little kid waiting to get their present on christmas. Im sitting here looking out the window ready to pounce my mailman and see if there is a letter. Of course he is running fashionably late. I know its only been 10 days but i still hope. Yesterday was our 6 month anniversary, tomorrow is christmas eve...itd be a nice present if i got one today or tomorrow. Even his parents getting the form letter would be nice at this point.

mamawalrus:  just an idea, if you have anybody that can pick up your mail tomorrow, they could put it in a pre-addressed Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope (addressed to whereever you will be next week) and if they can just drop it right back into outgoing mail at your local PO before collection time (usually 5 PM - but posted at each Post Office,or online at usps.com), it should arrive by Tuesday whereever you are, as long as it's in the lower 48 states.  It's $4.90 for the Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope.  (Priority Mail really does get there in 2-3 days, usually 2 days - there is delivery tomorrow and all next week through Friday, just no delivery this Saturday or next Saturday) .  You'd have to call your Post office right now, and tell them not to hold your mail til next week (or again, go online and change the Hold order)  Just an idea, don't know if that will work for you or not, but I thought I'd throw it out there!

send2herb and pench,,, have you joined the 803/804 discussion group in the 2/4/11 page,,, it is located in their discussion area.....looks like these 2 Divisions are relating to each other from what one 803 mom told me.....so our boys will more then likely be around each other some and in Pre Buds.
