This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

gmmayo: I think you meant my link to lock and go ...sorry about that.  It is www.thelockandgo.com  This is for anyone whose sailor will be staying at RTC for a few days before moving over to GL base for A School...and needs a place to store their laptop, cell, etc until they are on base.

mamawalrus: Residence Inn is about 4 miles from the base...about a 10 minute cab ride. Very doable.  It is just a few blocks closer than Courtyard and Springhill Suites.  I liked Residence because it is next to an office park in a very quiet area.

Yes, they have the shuttle.  Sign up for the time you want when you check in.  I suggest the 6:30 one!  We were in our seats by 7 a.m....

dorrio:  Yes, I have several Navy mom friends who have stayed at Springhill Suites and really liked it.  Said the staff was very accommodating too.  Don't think you can go wrong with that, Residence Inn, or Courtyard...all in the same general area.

PIR shuttle at all 3 hotels.

yes, that should not be a problem, I talked with the reservations clerk about us trying to get a group rate, and she said I can cancel this reservation and go with the group if we can get the numbers to get a better rate, and of course will do that if we can get to 10, for sure!    Did it sound like they will discount lower than that rate with a group?

Bex@they do the govt rate but not for the 2 bedroom, my husband works for the govt as well.

Comment by mamawalrus on December 20, 2010 at 9:41pm

momof ms@ Yes the one bedroom has a sofa sleeper....,

bexwest@ you have one room so hopefully they will let me count your room since it is booked. I am not sure how this works...but I have not rec'd enough feedback for rooms so I think we may have to just book on our own,  I know there is at least 5 of us at this point.
