This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

pench:  Not all attending A School in GL are GradNGo.  Some will be held on RTC for a few days before moving over to GL base. That is why parents ask for www.lockango.com info...so they can store their sailors cell/laptop, etc until they are located on GL base and can take a cab to get their things.  If your sailor has to move to GL base right after PIR, then he/she is GradNGo.  That may mean overnights with him/her, so that is a great thing!  Those who are retained on RTC will not be allowed overnights.

himmiemom:  I so know your feelings.  My son was in bc for both Thanksgiving and Christmas last year.  Christmas seemed so different...especially Christmas morning with just my older son (who lives in his own place).  That was the first year I didn't video opening of the gifts. Just too sad.  I am thankful that my sailor is home for Christmas this year  :-).  He missed Thanksgiving/Christmas last year and Thanksgiving this year.  But as military families, we have to get used to that, I guess!  Hoping that he can call you either Christmas Eve or Christmas...

Proud USA Mom:  I messaged you the Residence Inn info...it is a very nice hotel...1- and 2-bedroom suites.  I believe the living room has a pullout sleeper too, but not positive on that. Full kitchen...which is nice if you want to cook for your sailor!  Walmart super store nearby for supplies.  Location was great.

Aprul..That is awesome that you got a call already.  When did you husband leave for bc?

I am really missing my son.  All the kids are home for the next two weeks on Christmas break.  It makes it hard not having him home also.  It will be two weeks tomorrow when I said goodbye to him.  It has gone really fast and it is hard to believe that I will get to see him in 6 weeks.  I am not looking forward at all to Christmas, but I have two other children and I have to be for them.  It is just so hard to put aside my feelings so others don't see them right now.  I can only imagine how my son is feeling right now.  I hope that things are going okay for all of them and that they are becoming their own family right now to help each other get through this.

Finished all my Christmas shopping over the weekend.  Weather has been bitter cold, but so far no more snow.  Although I would love a little more snow for some sledding with my daughter and son.  Anything to get my mind off missing my son.  I was okay untill today.  Now again, I am crying and feeling blue.  It was so much easier the last two weeks being home by myself I could cry, but with the others home I feel like I shouldn't be crying.

How is everyone else doing with Christmas approaching?  Anyone feeling the same.  Just want to make sure I am not going crazy.

Good morning, glad to see that so many of you got your letters! we did last week, for those of you who did not read my post, he said he was fine, a little board, and that he loves us! I don't know about any of you, but the waiting is just killing me, the no contact is just terrible! I know no news is good news and that is just what I keep telling my self. I have written several times, I hope that he is getting some mail soon!

I still have a question about the zip code and have not gotten a clear answer, I am going to call the recruiting office today. those of you in ship04 div804 what zip code are you using, I have gotten 2 different ones.

If your Sailor is attending A School at Great Lakes, they are considered a Grad & Go, and they will need to check into their new command before taking liberty which may take up to five hours. Please make sure your recruit has your phone number so they can call you when they are ready to be picked up following check-in. While you wait for your Sailor, USS YORKTOWN and eateries at RTC are available

mamawalrus I found it on the RTC site under family guide. hope this helps
