This is the final test for your recruits.  When they pass this, they are sailors and trade in their recruit cap for their sailor cap in a capping ceremony afterwards. The ship they do this on was designed by Disney, so it is very realistic. During…Continue

Hi everyone. This is my boyfriend's PIR date :)

Comment by Lynne on December 13, 2010 at 7:39pm

Hi all, my name is Lynne and I am one of the seasoned moms who will be dropping by to answer questions along with Jessica and Dianne. Although, let me say I am the newbie of the bunch. My son PIR'd in November. He is currently in Pensacola, having the time of his life I might add because he is on hold for classes. His rate is AE, which is Aviation Electronics. He told me he would be starting classes nine days after arriving at Pensacola, and I said according to navy for moms it would be more like after Christmas....guess who was right...yeppers...the old navy for moms network. I tell you this so you know that you will probably know as much or more than your recruit by the time you graduate from boot camp.

Oh you didn't think it was just your recruit that was going to boot camp did you. Well, sorry I have news for you, when your recruit signed up, so did you. In your time here, you will earn your Navy stripes: proud and strong. In this room you will get to know many people, you will worry together, cry together, get angry together, and even laugh together, but most importantly you will become part of the Navy family. You and your recruit will grow and change. It won't be easy, but it will be amazing.

In the next couple days I will be adding some things to your site like how to order a blue star flag and what the navy says about how to display it, some questionaires and my commandments about how NOT to get your recruits in trouble at boot camp. I am sure none of you want to be responsible for your recruit getting "beat" at boot camp. Don't panic...a beating...is simply extra physical training...but they don't like it...lol! RDCs can and DO read these sites so we have to take some steps to insure that nothing we do cause our recruits to get in trouble.

Okay, one final thing...I see to have appointed myself the name police...so don't take any offense...I am just trying to help you protect your recruits.  I want you to be able to come to this room and vent, to share your feelings and emotions, your fears, your anxieties, and your hopes, excitement and thrills about the things you hear or don't hear from boot camp.  In order to do this it is so important that we insure we protect your recruits confidentiality.  In otherwards we don't want, the lovely RDCs who are training your recruits to be wonderful successful sailors, to gather any information here that "can and will be used against them" to give them extra PT or IT.  the RDCs do read these groups and perhaps look for little tidbits of "gold" like a recruit who is writing a letter everyday when they are only supposed to write on Sunday so he/she doesn't forget everything that happened, or perhaps the recruit who cried themself to sleep because they missed home.  So, please, removed any picture you have of your recruit from your screen picture, do not use your recruits name or initials in your screen name, and refrain from using their names or nicknames when speaking of them.  Refer to them as my son, my daughter, my hubby, my recruit, my loved one...whatever...your recruit will thank you for it.  So if I point out to you something about your name...I am not trying to pick on  you or be ugly...I am really just trying to protect your recruit and save you from getting a letter that starts with  'what were you thinking when you said.... on that navy mom thing"....lol

Okay dmname...my name is Lynne and I will introduce myself in a sec...but I am one of the seasoned moms...sort of...lol...but yep it is normal to feel overwhelmed...in about week 4 you will feel less so...lol...sorry but it is what it is.  We are about to bombard you with information in the discussion forum up above that will give you many facts.  In fact, in the first few weeks, you will probably know more than your recruit, and sometimes more than the recruiter...it is almost funny how educated you are about to become.

Take deep breath about the addresses.  JessicaB is the fact guru...that is what I call her.  She is about to explode the discussion forums with the correct address information for each ship, information about PIR and many other things.  I am going to add a little information about questionaires, rules for engaging in communication with your recruit and other information.

You will all survive...you might have a few bumps and bruises...but in general this ride will come to a full and complete stop and your stomach and other vital organs will be in tact when it is over...lol!!  Hang in there!!

I asked this question on the general BCM forum...does anyone know the answer?  I'm hoping the 5 letters I already sent make it to my SR!

Does anyone else feel overwhelmed (in addition to the emotional rollercoaster) by the amount fo information coming our way?  I was so excited when I received a call from my daughter's recruiter this afternoon and he had her address.  I shared it with over 100 friends and family.  In addition to the SHIP/DIV, Name of Ship and all that stuff, he said her address was:

3355 Illinois Street, Great Lakes, IL  60088

According to the Recruit Training Command site, the address for Ship 09 is:

3415 Sailor Drive, Great Lakes, IL  60088-3515

http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/contact_recruit.asp

They also indicate the 3355 Illinois St address is the Great Lakes main address?  How can I confirm the correct address??  Does anyone know?  Does anyone have a son or daughter in SHIP 9 - DIV 067?
