Sailormommind My hubby and I get to come home for Thanksgiving but will be deployed over Christmas, Valentine's Day, and our anniversary. My Dad also missed countless birthdays, and holidays. My biggest piece of advice to make it easier is to not dwell so much on the day. I know its hard bc everyone gets so excited. I get excited to see other friends and family and celebrate the special days with my sailor later :) I remember its just a day we place the emphasis on it. Maybe you could do all the holidays again when he comes home :). I read a story abr a soldier that was getting deployed soon and his friends and family had a celebration for every holiday during his leave beforehand. He had a brand new baby girl so they dressed her up and did halloween. thanksgiving, christmas, and I think possibly easter just so he could be there for those special moments. :) I have stopped placing emphasis on those days he is not there and doing something super special the times he is. I think of Alice and Wonderland... the unbirthday song. :) We have unchristmas, unthanksgiving, unbirthdays, unvalentine etc. :) lol Thinking abt you and your family this holiday season

Hello all--Sailormom I am sending you some courage to face the season as it comes.  Remember it can be smooth and happy just as it unfolds.  You hold the key.  Some sweet words by telephone may make the day complete...and Dec. or Jan. will roll very quickly to us!  Have heart!  Stay strong and safe.

My son will not be home for Thanksgiving he will be staying in Goose Creek where he has many friends down there.  But he will come home for Christmas when the nuclear power school shuts down for the holidays.

a lot of talk today at work about the holidays has left me feeling blue...Thanksgiving will sure be different and we are waiting for word on when leave will be in Dec or Jan.  We went to a family wedding a couple weeks ago and realized it was the first "family" event we went to without our son/brother and it felt really weird.  The last 2 months has been a strain with several family members and serious illness....don't want to bring my boy down but he will face some big changes when he comes home to some loved ones.  hope to shake the blues soon

I think I have found you all at last.  My sailor doing well...aboard the Carl Vinson and really liking San Diego. I may get to see him in Nov!  Saw briefly in August.  Much positive change!  Be safe all.
